Rant on anything... and I guess since I'm starting it, I'll go first...
Runescape... I've said a little about it before, but now is time for the real beat down of why I h8te this game  When you first begin runescape, you start out on this gay "tutorial" island that will teach you everything you could possibly need to know... and more.. it takes 30 minutes to explain a 2 minute game. You can literally learn everything there is to know about this game in 2 minutes as long as you understand that everything is driven by leveling up and using x item plus y item = z item. While a lot of people argue that there's a "varity" of skills, this is not true. What these are are skills duplicated with different items given for each. They are each, in themselves, a joke. Woodcutting: Why is this even a skill? All you do is click on a tree and chop it down. At a tie for the most useless and stupid skill in the game with fire making. Are there not other wooden objects in this game? How about having woodcutting as an ability to say hack your way into a hut? or maybe to break someone's wooden shield? No such luck. Fire Making: Again, stupid and gay... all you can do here is set wood on fire... that's the grand finally of it. You gain experience based on 1 factor... which is quantity of wood burned (1 each time). It is not deserving to be a skill at all. Now, if you actually had the ability to set OTHER things on fire.. like houses, monsters, dungens, etc... use your imaginations, then that "might" be a worthy skill. Ranged: With the bow or crossbow... all you do here is shoot stuff. There's no trick to it... no ability to aim "over" object (ie: like with a longbow), or ability to shoot through things (ie: like with a crossbow)... just standard check to see if within range and point to point attack. Fishing: You can catch fish... wow.. now all I need is a boat and a fish master 2000, and I'm all set!!! No wait... they don't lend you boats in this game either. This skill is about equivilant to mining except you're catching food not ores (a slightly different 2d graphic and bit number). The only difference is fish don't dissapear when you catch them. Mining: You mine for ores... which is, the extent of it with an occasional chance to get a gem. The same as fishing except your ores dissapear for a moment or long time after you get them, which can make it very annoying and time consuming. Smithing: Now here's a useful ability, right?? Afterall, who needs to pay for their weapons when you can just make them, right?? Oh wait... you god-knows-how-many lumps of coal to smelt enough ore just to gain levels (think up in the thousands). And even better... you can't stack coal, despite how desperate the creators of this game want you to use it. Another waste of your time skill with no real purpose but to annoy. Cooking: Ah yes... food will make everything better! With enough, you can restore your health. And better yet, we'll make this just like the smithing and crafting skill, and make it so that you have to run around trying to find 3 or 4 non-stackable ingredients just to make 1 cooking thing for 100 experience points when you need 300,000 just to go up 1 level. Crafting: The all time useless and most annoying skill. Everyone gives up on it (except for the 1 person in all runescape who has lv 99 crafting). The "best" way to get experience in crafting is by crafting with silver... which is again, unstackable, and since you can only carry a max of 30 of them, and each only gives you 50 exp, and when you get into the "high" levels with 30-300K+ of exp. needed to gain levels.. it becomes mindless repetition of boredom. Magic: Click on spell... click on enemy. My oh my... can they invent some crazy ideas for magic. Of all things... you can teleport to cities... attack your enemies... grab things that they've intentionally put out of your reach so that the only way to get them is to use magic... and "enchant" amulets... turn 1 item into gold... smelt 1 ore... and that's about it. Regaurless of how simple it would be to make magic something that could actually "do" things for you (like auto-cut trees, create fires, create an item out of nothing, teleoport your enemy somewhere else, etc.).. they do none of that, and yet it's such an easy and "useful" thing to do. Prayer: Not even worth mentioning. All I'll say is that if burrying bones is the best idea they can come up with for gaining levels... then they need to take their brains back because apparently they've picked up defective rentals. Fighting, and all of its skills: One of the worst aspects of the game... fights are like lightning fast pong rounds where your spacer is at a size determined by your experience and armor/weapon. After you get around level 50... as with anything else, you notice your level just... stops going up. Which would probably be because as the monsters do get stronger, they give you poop in return for experience. Take a hint from the REAL role playing games out there... as you get stonger, experience gained should also get MUCH larger. Fighting, in itself, is lame, and a waste of time, and relies on pre-determined numbers.. as everything. Runescape itself is a world of numbers.. everything is based on probability, thus solidly eliminating the ability to "think" and actually "do" things that might be worthy of a real role playing game... ah flip it.. this is going nowhere... I'll rant on this when I'm thinking more clearly... |
