before, i had aol, and the game was workin perfectly, now, i just got dsl, and i would expect for it to be faster, right? wrong...i can get into the chatrooms and stuff but i cant host AND i cant join games. I dont think im behind a router or firewall because when i had aol i could host and join games, so wat is the problem now, and how can i fix it?
p.s. i tried both the downloaded version and the non downloaded version (mirror 1)

when u connect ur dsl/broadband it set up a router/firewall, and u don't know it. See if one ofur family connected a firewall and they didn't tell u. I was connecting my broadband and it ask me to set up a firewall. And i cancel it so i won't get one. Just got to ur control panel and click add/remove program see if youfind ur router/firewall program install

If your on a router (if you are not directly hooked up to your dsl modem) then you have a firewall. Someone said that a firewall is basically another computer with a Heavy firewall and posted a fix on how to get to host through a router. it had to do with allowing ports access that usually are not accessable. I think its in this board if youwanna look. but if your not sure what you are doing you probably shouldn't try it.

You have a router and / or a firewall. There is really nothing you can do to fix this problem. You can try port forwarding, but so far that has worked for no one.

people really need to get their fact straights today...
ROUTER = a little box called a router which used to broadcast your internet connection to all the computers in your local area network (multi computer connected to each other). so seriously, there is no way to have gained a router with the DSL upgrade, unless one family member paid around 99$ to get one as it doesn't come with any internet connection you can buy ! FIREWALL = a software blocker that blocks unwanted connections to your computer ! now... having DSL or CABLE assure you to have a firewall integrated into your modem... why ? because it is now connected to internet at all times, so if you didn't had one, anyone could hvae access to your computer without you knowing it ! multiple ways to solve that problem, but it all needs of you to know how to get to the firewall. by default it shouldn't be blocking any ports, which is suppose to let you do whatever you want. in any case... the only way for it to do that is if one played around with it and changed the original configuration. or if the company guy who installed it, activated it and configured it without saying so ! in cases... you are screwed if you don't know where you are going with this ! computers tends to have such a bad behavior to new things !

some dsl modems have a router built in... so, u could be behind a router and not even know it...
try checking the "old connection" modem in the network section of the setup menu... |
