[quoteost_uid0="Troy88"]Viper: I completely understand your plea, at least as far as the rankings are concerned. Fighting for rank is what made this game appealing to me when I started. The competitiveness is what made it all worth while.

Because, let's be honest here. This game, while it does have it's appeal (the "appeal" being able to play people from all around the world, basically), it doesn't measure up to the arcade version, and it never will, if for no other reason, the fact that there will always be lag involved in an online game. There are no air combos in this game, no grabs, and half the time, you don't even know if you're doing anything to your opponent. I started playing this game in the first place, because I WAS a fan of the arcade version (and was pretty damn good at it too, I might add), and to be perfectly honest, I didn't think much of this the first time I played. My first reaction (as I'm sure is the case with all n 0 0 b s ) was "why the hell aren't my attacks doing anything to my opponent." Then I realized that there weren't any air combos, no grabs, and limited special moves. Plus, it severely annoyed me that I couldn't use my gamepad for my PC to play (who the hell really enjoys using the keyboard, anyways).

I probably would have quit altogether if I hadn't noticed the top scores. The idea of building a reputation in an online community was very appealing to me, despite the fact that the game had been simplified. So I kept playing the game, and eventually started to like the game, even with all of it's flaws and shortcomings. It seemed reminiscient of old school Street Fighter 2, only with Street Fighter AND X-Men characters. That was good enough for me, because a TRUE X-Men vs. Street Fighter arcade experience, with people that I didn't know, just seemed impossible, without actually going to an arcade. I played and I played, learned several 'lag' strategies, and even made it to #1 at one time. I consider that time my 'prime,' because I played and enjoyed the game the most at that time.
However...

The same "appeal" that the topscores offered was a double-edged sword. Right about the same time that I reached #1 for the first and only time, there was someone else that was putting extreme pressure on me to keep it. It was fun at first, I have to admit. But after busting my ass to get to #1 in the first place, it got old...quick. This guy (don't even remember who it is, anymore) would literally fight all day, and I just couldn't keep up with him. After finally accepting that I'd never be a legend like Nferno and many others, I let him have the top spot. Just for the hell of it, I challenged him to a fight. He denied my challenge several times, and even avoided me for a while, but finally he gave in and gave me a fight. Imagine my surprise when I was able to defeat him with ease, 6 rounds in a row. I couldn't believe it. I felt like I was being mocked. I was thinking, "this is the kind of fighter that can out rank me?"

Up to that point, I didn't really have a good understanding of how the rank system worked. But after taking a close look at how it was set up, I began to realize....

...That all you have to do is kill n 0 0 b s all day to stay on top. I was fighting everyone when I worked my way to the top, and I was almost completely oblivious to how the ranks worked. My competition (the one who wouldn't let me have #1 for more than 5 minutes at a time, who had an almost flawless record), however, had a different strategy. He did fight just as many people as I did. But he didn't fight everyone. He was very selective about who he fought.

After realizing all this, I began to lose interest in the game, slowly but surely. It is a simple game, and it truly doesn't take long to master it. 90% of all the vets use an almost identical strategy with Ryu, and in all honesty, a match between two veteran Ryu users can go either way. At my prime, I consider myself to have been an equal with Nferno, and all the other top vets in the game. Does that sound conceited? I don't give a damn. It's the truth, and I think you all know what I'm talking about. You can only get so good at a game that is as simple as this, and furthermore, strategy will only take you so far in a game that is flawed with lag, that can make or break even the best of players.

Having said all that, it would only make sense that a simple game would get boring. Would you sit around and play Super Mario Brothers 1 day in, and day out? I wouldn't.

The topscores made the game interesting in my early days, and even to a small extent right before I completely lost interest. A simple game by itself will get boring. But...a simple game that offers competition among it's community, through the use of a top scores feature, is interesting. Or WAS interesting, up until I realized how easily a n 0 0 b-killer could come along, and take your spot away from you. If that's what it takes to stay on top, then I'd rather not be on top.

Now some of you might think or say, "you shouldn't just fight for rank, blah, blah, blah..." Save it. My argument is a hell of a lot more logical than that one liner. Competition is fun. You want the vets to stay? Make the game fun for them. Once they realize that the ranks are bull sh*t, and catered towards n 0 0 b-killers, they become inactive. It happened with me, it happened with Tarkan, and I'm sure it will happen with many others. If you can honestly tell me that you never once played with the prospect of being #1 in your head, AND that you still play the game as much as you did in your early days, then I'll shutup. But I think most of you know I'm right.

Some of the veterans here have caught on to the fact that the "competition" is what made the game so much fun, and started weekly tournaments, and other events. Now, having participated in one of the weekly tournaments, I must say, it was quite refreshing to fight others of equal (and even higher, in a few cases) skill level. It felt like the old days all over again. I have to give KKS props for doing what he's doing. However, tournaments around here are notorious for no shows. I'm not really blaming anyone...but the fact remains, no shows are a serious problem. Tournaments would be so much better if everyone that signed up, would show up. The other disadvantage to tournaments is (to me personally, anyways) that I don't like keeping appointments. I realize that this is the reason there are no-shows in the first place, but the difference is, I make sure I can be there the day that it is scheduled if I sign up. That's why the rank system could be so much better than it is. It could offer us the competition we crave, if only it were to be tweaked a little bit.

Well, I'm done talking about ranks and n 0 0 b-killers for the time being. Seems like I get all worked up, then nobody (except for TarkanX) listens to what I have to say. But if anything I've said makes any sense to you, then please, for the love of God, check out the link in my sig. I have a great idea of what can be done to discourage n 0 0 b-killing, but what good is a great idea if it gets no support. Honestly, I don't think it will make much of a difference anyways. TMyApp pretty much does what he wants to do, it's very rare that anyone's suggestions get taken seriously.

Now, about this "MOD" status B.S., I agree and disagree with you at the same time, 2000warrior. As far as moderating the chat room, I don't blame TMyApp for not wanting to go to the extra work of coding in a new MOD. I wouldn't want to do it. But at the same time, why should we all be expected to run around like little snitches, and email TMyApp every time someone comes in the chat room and starts cussing everyone out? It doesn't bother me (personally) enough to do anything about it. So what if someone has a filthy mouth. Welcome to the real world. If you people are offended so easily, what are you going to do when you work in a factory, with some foul-mouthed old-timer at your side, that won't shutup for a second. The sooner you learn how to deal with the @ssholes of the world, and stop your bitching, the better off you'll be in the longrun. You can't censor the entire world, you know.

The only thing I'd like to see changed in the chat room is the spamming. I can't get that /ignore feature to work for some reason, and sometimes people come in there and just type random characters over and over and hit enter. It's quite frustrating....

What I don't understand is, why can't there be more MODs in the forum? Is there some sort of law that says a MOD in the forum has to be a MOD in the chat room?

Now, here's the part where I specifically disagree with you, 2000warrior. You, Zing79 (from your quote), and even TMyApp speak of MOD status more like Deity status. It's not that big of a deal to moderate a forum, seriously. Give back to the community? Give me a break. That's probably why Warmor doesn't spend much time here in the first place, because he's too busy "giving back to the community" working on his website, to stop all the idiots from spamming around here. Why the hell do we have a locked sticky topic (projectz)? I've been here a long time, and I rarely see Warmor post, even when I first started.

The only criteria for a forum moderator should be that he/she spends a lot of time in the forum, is mature, will actually enforce the rules, and will treat everyone fairly, despite past rivalries/beefs with another member of the forum. That's it. "Giving back to the community" by making nifty little websites does not determine how good of a forum moderator he or she will be. Some people don't even know how to use HTML. Does that mean they aren't mature enough to moderate a forum? Does that mean they aren't capable of enforcing simple rules? I see people spamming, flaming, and being disrespectful left and right around here, and I don't see the people who have "given back to the community" doing a damn thing about it.

Also, I seem to be getting the impression that you have to kiss ass to become a moderator. Being on your best behavior, never swearing, etc, etc. Well I would like to point out that acheiving MOD status cleans up your act all by itself, to some extent. Take KKS for example. He used to flame, swear, and make fun of n 0 0 b s (not that I have a problem with it, I'm just saying...). But if you read his posts at the Senshuk forum, he was like a different person; he was helpful, considerate, and enforced the rules, just like he was supposed to. In other words, he did an excellent job. But if we were to discriminate against him because of his past flames and n 0 0 b-bashing, we never would have known it, would we? Having responsibility makes you more responsible.[/quote]
Damn that was long I only read the noob killer part and I agree with eveything you said troy  especially about being number 1 even I was ranked 1 in this game before but I had to work my ass of to keep it because this noob killer was right behind me he never slept all he did was play this game all day but when I fought him he sucked like hell's so I thought if a noob killer like him sucks that much and is ranked second it doesn't make a difference if he's ranked one I'm still better than him anways. I like what you said here to:

I consider my self to be an equal with them even now because you can only get so good at this game.........basically all u have to do is hyper jump and throw hadoken's....hyper jump throw hadoken's.......hyper jump super oh yeah don't forget to kick while you in the air, but I can't even hyper these days *cough lag* but this game is pretty simple but I like what KKS is doing with the WT gg KKS it's making this game fun again

Yes we all quit, I would've quit back in december, I fulfilled what I wanted, winning a tourney.... anyways, just leave the score, if you don't like ##### beating up eachother, don't talk about it. I agree with you Viper, but why not just join the weekly tournies, sure it's not the same like ranks, but there are points. Or if your bored, fight not because of ranks. Or go to the arcade, or invite your friends over to play over your house, or play an emulator or something.

Everyone goes, people known from August, September, October, November, December, January, February, March, etc.... they left. Most of them left.

Every vet leaves. WHy are you preaching that they should come back. It's like life, your born, you explore life, you die, the end. But in this game, you join the game, you explore it, then you leave, game over. If they do come back(for a reunion), I'd just greet them, but other than that, I stopped caring. Just play the game. I tried making a rank system, it didn't work, so just play the game, even if there are #### killers that don't challenge you.

If you want points so badly, go on a user name like "dUmB aSs".
