Troy88: You of all people should know that that "responsibilities" don't make you "responsible." Ahh well... I'll just leave a nice lenghty post for yer's to read since that's the kinda language you/we speak in...
About this rank B.S... I agree with you and don't at the same time, Troy88.. Nobody would last long in xvssf without a points system. Why? Because there's no point in fighting. Hundreds of "######s" come and go every day, and just because of the staggering magnanimity of it, we have to have a points for people to base themselves off of (as well as to give them something to "shoot" for). Everyone that I've known in this online game has played for the soul purpose of being getting a better rank and being called "the best" when they first joined. The ambition of being called "the best" just fills everyone's mind at one time or another. Is it something that needs to be stopped? Not necissarily. Even if it were possible to create an "efficient" ranking system that was somehow based on how good you are, it still wouldn't stop people from lossing interest and bitching about it. And what would happen then? The people that cosistantly hold the top ranks would grow bored, quit carring, and leave. People leave the game, not because it's "simple", but because it's the same thing. Ever single game you'll ever play, you'll get tired of at one point or another, no matter how simple or complex. Games like Pac Man compared to games like Load Runner prove this every day. While Load Runner is extremely complex, it gets boring in that you don't accomplish much and everything is just puzzles, whereas Pac Man is graphically and designed "simple", it's still something adictive because of its points system. But back to the points system. Without a points system that allows players to surpass others, the guys at the top inevitablly will quit, because of lack of necessity to play. The points system we have now is rather "radical" and people have to play constantly to get to the top (whether you ###### kill or not). A points system that would keep the top players up there, would seem pretty neet at first... but then they'd just learn that they don't have to fight very much to retain their position, and eventually lose interest (which is inevitable in either case). If ever there comes a proposal for a good ranking system in the game that will both include "skills" and the necessity to fight constantly, I'll be all for it. But until that day, I'm perfectly content with what we have. Hell everyone who bitches about it doesn't even fight anymore, so what's their problem? Anyways, adressing the Mod issue... TMyApp NEVER once said to start giving names or SN's of people. He simply wants a more efficient chat filter. One thing you oucht to remember is the "turning on" of the forum's filter. Before that, people complained, dissed, and all out ####-talked non-stop. As bad as I "think" Luna disses people, outbursts from ramziel and Subzeroninja were like reading walls in the bathrooms of school. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against swearing. I swear more then anyone I know, and I couldn't care less about how many times some angry #### calls me a "fag" or "######." But you have to realize that people play this game that arn't even in high school yet, and this is supposed to be a "family freindly" game. I agree with your statement "The sooner you learn how to deal with the @ssholes of the world, and stop your bitching, the better off you'll be in the longrun." But since it's commonplace with humans to let society set their boundaries, things like swearing can/will disturb people for no reason then that they've been raised their entire life to think that it's "bad" (not to mention creating the overall atmosphere of the game rather poopy). A couple links that (might) make you understand a little better just why TMy is trying to moderate profanity: Discussion about posiblility of a forum filter Forum Filter being turned on Last thing I'll say about swearing is that this IS a FREE GAME. If you don't like how TMy's running it with filters, you're MORE then welcome to leave. Modship being a diety? That pretty much says it all. Having a "modship" in THIS forum isn't because you've been picked to help deal with the #### problem, and I doubt it ever was. Just look at the first mods, ewalk and Lordcyris. ewalk immidiatly was respected for his posts and tournament hosting, and Lordcyris for his posts and winning the tournament. The next one, Zing79 hosted 3 TOC's and created Senshukentaikai. Quass co-created Senshuk and helped him with the TOC's. Warmor created the first "official" website, and his comics. What I'm trying to say here is, no mod has gotten their "priviledge" by being able to enforce the law... in fact, they've all done rather rotten jobs of it. After the first week(s), ewalk left, Lordcyris didn't/hasn't been around for a LONG time, Zing79 almost left exclusively to Senshuk once that was made, same with Quass, and Warmor never has been posting much around the official forum since the "olden days." It's quite obvious that TMy and leftyfb don't give modships to people that can/will enforce the law. I think of the modships as sort of a "prize" that gets awarded to the people that "give back" to the game (as Zing79 so well put it). Just as a tournament winner has the chance to possibly get a prize, a person who "help out" frequently and for long periods of time has the chance to be "awarded" a modship. The criteria has always been that way, and always should be. As for "having responsibility makes you responsible," I hate to diss anyone (especially my freinds) but contrary to what you think, KidKrazypoop never was a good admin at Senshuk (and none of them were after Zing79 and Quass). After getting a modship, he did the same thing most people do and did a few "quick" supervisions and such, then just rolled back and "let ####" happen. I mean, honestly, not a single justified ban (other then the regular mega-man) until THE LAST day?? People got away with everything at Senshuk (posting in registration topics for no reason, spamming, posting h8te 24/7, etc.) and the only person that I ever saw trying to stop that was Quass (who should have been retired). Now that the forum is gone, KidKrazypoop is the same guy he always was, and I don't exactly see him dissing ######s constantly. Having responsibility doesn't make you responsible. What happened to Warmor? How often does he update HIS site? What about the jerk that hosted CCF? His tournament had about 8% participation, do you call that responsible? Zing79 and Quass have been/were responsible FAR before they had responsibilities, and they still continue to be responsible. What I really think you're getting at there is having responsiblility makes YOU care about how OTHER people think about you. Just think, if people you're moderating don't respect you, how hard is it going to be to do the moderation? Almost impossible. This is proven by how Quass actually tried to enforce the laws at Senshuk, and how everyone started jumping on him once he did. Why? Because they weren't used to actually HAVING to follow the rules. Whereas when someone like KidKrazypoop or me tried to tell them to stop, they just ignored it. Too add to that, it's just no fun moderating a bunch of people that don't like you. How you "make" them like you, is by "meeting their expectations," whether it's being helpful or not enforcing the laws. Zing79 and Quass have been responsible all along, that's why they didn't just "let ####" happen @ Senshuk, that's why they were/are good mods, and that's why they're respected. I hope that has cleared up most/all of your discrepencies (even though I know it has fallen upon deaf ears). |
