Im not gonna take the time to read each and every damn page, but after reading the first 4, i think i see why people cant agree: we're agruing about two different things

The PRO-marriage side is looking at it correctly--theyre looking at what marriage is supposed to be and ideally is.

The Con side is looking at how it is practiced as a majority around the world. Thats not a good view to take in this discussion--we're looking at why people in the USA and or Britain and or canada get married; the standard of living and treatment of women in places like these is much higher than elsewhere. Whether marriage is abused most of the time is besides the point; what matters is how it will be used by the people in this discussion

Marriage is like a promise, and you could take the same viewpoint with promises--why make them? people break them.

But that isnt what matters. Promises are made with the hope that people will keep them, and marriages are made as a commitment to the woman or man you love that you will never leave them. Sure people divorce, but it is the people who are flawed, not marriage itself.

Why get married--it accomplishes nothing:thats not the point. Saying "good-night", or "I love you" accomplishes nothing practical, but people do it anyways. Theres more to life than accomplishing practical things.
