Since "TOC fever" has probably gripped a lot of you... I thought I'd open up this little discussion for those of us who've been honored enough to participate in the past TOC tournaments (all over a year old by now).
TOC II I found this game too late to play in TOC I, but I still remember the first comment on the opening screen when I did. Something like: "Our latest tournament winner, TarkanX will now have acess to a new character and a new helper that only he can chose! Congradulations to him!" After that I knew I'd have to find out about when the next tournament was.. So.. I trained like crazy for TOC II, averaging out at 20+ fights per night (somewhere around 50 on the weekends). And then before long... came the big day itself. I made sure to join early... about an hour before Zing79 started taking registrations. When he did start up, there was quite a commotion of people running around going "Zing, Zing... sign me up!" And that bastard Randy~Moss going "wwwwwaaaaazzzzzzuuuuupppp" constantly. I didn't call him out though... just waited until he asked me for my email (or whatever the specs were...can't remember). And then... about 2 hrs. later, my first fight was against Airlock (and sadly, not in rank order, as had been advertised). I had seen the guy in the topscores... he was ranked higher then me and had few losses, but not by much and had few games fought at that... so I thought I could beat him. As can be derived from this... I hadn't checked out the old topscore lists or much of the forum. Since Airlock was ranked higher, he hosted first (after excusing himself to go practice for about 2 minutes first because he had "just woke up"). And... he beat me. Fairly solidly the first round, but a close 2nd. Then it was my turn to host. 1st win to him, second to me, 3rd to him... all very close matches (the last he won by a time-out which appeared that we had even health on). A pretty crushing defeat from what so much anticipation and training was put into, and afterwards he told me "I don't know how it decided that one", and "I havn't had such a close match in a while..." If I'd only knew then what I know now... I might have known that was a pretty big compliment. *sigh* However, I stuck around to see who won... I believe Airlock had to leave for work at 4:00 pm. (depriving me of the chance to see if there was a good reason for why I lost in my... 1st round?!?! when that kid I'd already pounded before manontherun won?!?). Anyways... I didn't train much for about a week, then started up again for TOC III. TOC III After my defeat in TOC II, I decided to train even harder for TOC III, making sure not to just fight anybody, but as many high ranked people and well known forum users as I could find. After a while (sometime in Feb.), TOC III registration began, and about a week and a half later, Zing79 emailed the rules to everybody. I saw some comments in the rules that said: [quote ost_uid0="Zing79"]5. I must receive an email from the *winner* with the final score by midnight of the scheduled playing day, otherwise BOTH of you will be eliminated! Example: that means for the first round you have to send me an email by midnight Wednesday |

According to your join date, you wouldv'e been to late to join TOC III (Feb. 2002).
And here's the FAQ I mentioned above... which may provide some insite as to why I thought it was meant for TOC I... [quote ost_uid0="TOC III FAQ"]FAQ When does the tournament start ? Saturday November 10th How do I know who I'm playing ? I Send you guys emails telling you who your playing Is the tournament just one day ? No, each one of your matches gets played out in one day. How long will the tournament last ? You play a match every other day, so if the tournament has 128 people, then expect to play 14 days, or 2 weeks if you plan to make it to the finals. Will Wolverine and Ryu be kept in separate brackets ? No, the tournament is completely mixed, so Ryu players will face Wolverine players. How do I decide who faces who ? I go by the top scores chart. Basically you are put into standard tournament brackets, where the number one ranked guy faces the last place guy. However I have ranked all Wolverine players in the top 200 ahead of Ryu players, regardless of how they rank in the top scores chart. What are those numbers next to my name ? The number to the left of your name is your tournament rank, the number to the right of your name is your rank in the top scores chart. What's the special character you get if you win ? If you win the tournament you get two options. You can either get a different version of Wolverine out right, or you can choose to fight Lordcyrus (the previous tournament winner), in a best out of 5 series for his special version of Ryu. And option 2 is to get a new helper which only you can use. A poll is up on the website to decide which one it will be. What happens if I can't play my match, because I'm busy that day ? Then unfortunately your eliminated. The tournament will not wait for anybody, so do whatever it takes to meet all deadlines I have imposed! Some people live in different time zones then me, what happens then ? Remember this! All matches are played in the EASTERN TIME ZONE. So make sure you know what time that is in your area, to make sure you meet all the deadlines I don't see my name in the registered players list on the website, am I registered ? Do not go by what the website says, it has to be updated, and its not instantaneous! Check your email, I reply to all players telling them they are registered for the tournament. If you have that email, then you are set up to play. I didn't get my email, what do I do ? If you didn't receive it, then its a problem with your email. Watch your filters! Some of you with hotmail keep telling me I haven't sent you an email, when I have. Make sure your email filters aren't set to high, because it wont recognize my address, and it will just trash the email I send you. But even if that happens, just send me another notice, change your filters so my email will get through, and I'll resend you another registration notice. What are all the deadlines, and why do I have them ? The deadlines are there to make sure the tournament runs smoothly. It will keep people from having to wait for days to find there opponent. As for the deadlines, they are pretty simple. On the match setup day its: 5pm for the first email, and 9 pm for the second email On the match day its: The time you guys are scheduled to play, and midnight for the winning player to submit their score to me. How are our match times set up ? I send one of you an email (in the morning) telling you to send an email to your opponent (by 5pm) telling them what all the times are that you can play. The other person waits for that email, looks it over, compares it to when they can play, and sends back (by 9pm), a scheduled match time. Can I switch characters in the tournament ? No, you have to use the character you signed up with for the whole tournament? What happens if the person I'm supposed to face is disqualified ? Then you get a bye into the next round. What if something weird happens that keeps people from playing their matches, that isn't in the rules ? Then I listen to what went down, and make a decision on what should happen? I had a fine memory of ToC2 (I played the game far before I joined the forums)
Everyone was bombarding Zing79 with questions in the chatroom. I go and check the top scores and there's Zing79, at rank 7. WHOA RANK 7! I go back in the chat and I'm like "Are you the maker of this game or something?" because I knew he was hosting a huge tournament. Zing says "No "Good memories

I might as well shed in some history....
TOC1 It was only a few days after me and Zing kept pounding the crap out of eachother. I thought I wasn't good enough, because I wasn't second to him! I wanted to beat him once and for all! I trained like it didn't even matter(I was rank 1 at the time), and when ToC came, I was finally pumped. Round 1 was a bye for me since I was so highly ranked, I fought silvergo in round 2(he beat one of my friends in round 1). I beat silvergo 3-0. Next round was against my good friend Chaoscrusher, I beat him 3-0 just liek Silvergo. In round 4, I saw the brackets that I had to fight JSL. I quivered in fear, me TarkanX, one of the greatest fighters at the time being scared because he had to fight JSL. But it was right to be scared. He beat most of the great fighters for a living, even Zing, the guy who kept pounding me to the floor was afraid of him! Anyways, I fought JSL in the evening... I was at my max level ready... we fought, but something amazing happened, I won 3-0! I would've never thought of it, but in his time(he lives in Britain), it was about 3:00am, so that might've been a factor. In round 5, I had to fight Token.... the person I knew from planetnamek, and who I first showed the game to. We were rivals, beating eachother up and down, the he was a bit easier(but barely) than Zing, I knew I would win no prob, maybe 1 loss.... But I was wrong. The first match, it was like a raging bull, he went so much on the offense against me, it was like I was at a stand still, I couldn't attack! He was being mean, and aggressive, so he won the first match. Match 2 was the same as match 1, but this time I came up as the victor! In match 3, he was more aggressive than before, and I lossed, it was 2-1, if I lossed, it would be over. I never won a tournament before, and I wanted to win one so badly! I didn't care for the rank... I wanted to be crowned something that had honor! "I shall not go down, unless I take you down FIRST!" In match 4, that's what exactly happened, I beat him, I had thanks to my bowl of soup which I made to keep me warm, and focused. Now match 5 was going to begin, so we fought it out, suddenly, the phone rings, and I want to ignore it, so I let the message pick it up... I can't concentrate so well, so he(Token) had me in "thin ice". When the message picked up, it was my boss... aigh... I had to abondon the game if I wanted to keep my job(I was fired about a month later at the time). So I left the game. Token thought the sync was lost, but I didn't explain the details to him. Now the match 5 would really begin... I went in to my max mode, and then beat Token. 3-2, I had won, and was happy! But then I heard some news that my friend who I wanted to meet in the semi-finals was beaten by a person not known much by Tantum. Tantum from what I saw him was very silent, a lone wolf as some might say... he was straight forward, just fighting, and beating the tar out of anyone he fought. Now match 6, the semi-finals of me and Tantum would begin... now I was supposed to send an e-mail, but being me, I hardly check my e-mail, only once every 3 weeks or so. So I got DQed, and Tantum would move into the finals. It was to be Zing vs Tantum. I was Angry, and enraged, my brain was going to explode. I trashed my table, yelling everywhere. I wanted a chance to be 1st at something. Not something cheap, and easy to get, but something with honor. I have never done that, and this was my only chance.... Zing and I then came to a decision... we would fight it out, best of 5, and I would host first. It came clear to both of us that whoever hosted would win, and thats how it went, I beat Zing 3-2, so I would take Zing's place in the finals of TOC1. I felt bad for Zing, he worked so hard to get there, and it was supposed to be me vs Zing in the finals, not the semi-finals. It would've been one of those last battle moments where 2 people fight it out, no rules, just beat the opponent, and win. But it wasn't like that.... So when Tantum heard the news of me winning, he complained that I replaced Zing, and had to fight him. He probably had a score to settle with Zing from their past fights, not sure... anywho, other people were also mad that I got in the finals by replacing Zing, people wanted to opposition(Tantum) to win.... So it was around 4:00-5:00pm... me and Tantum met in a server with no one in. I had a can of sprite so I wouldn't go hungry, or thirsty. We fought it out, I think he hosted first, I'm 70% sure he did, any who... we fought, and I won 3-1. He was mad saying I lagged(but he didn't thoroughly complain about it by yelling a fit). So I was proclaimed the champion of TOC1. I was extremely happy, probably the happiest moment that happened to me that year(2001). Ahh... it was bliss.... a month later, I got my red Ryu and Red Sent(and most of you know how much damage they did. MWHAHAHAAHAH!!!!) TOC2 I didn't really participate in TOC2, I was more like a spectator. When manontherun won, he said he was going to beat me... we had trouble finding eachother, but once we did(on a saturday), we fought a best of 3. I beat him. I admit, he was good, really good, but he never got a round on me, nor did he get my life bar to half. 2-0, it seemed like taking Candy from a 6 year old. Due to his loss to me, he didn't get the prize, and it put a "scar in his chest for a long time". TOC3 TOC3 came about one month later, but at bad timing. When TOC3 was going to begin(the preliminaries), super jumping became limited, which limited my strategy(My strategy was based solely on super jumping), also I had my red Ryu, and Red Sentinel removed for tournament reasons. DAMN IT! I said... it was like someone took out one of my legs. I couldn't walk with Red Ryu or Red Sent, it felt different(in a bad way). When the preliminaries started, I did worse than expected. A lot of losses, some people even doubted me for winning the tourney. Nferno was doing good, he was really determined, he keeps thinking that the tournament bug will keep haunting him. I was determined to fight Nferno for the final fight! I noticed that I kept losing a lot to fear tetsuo. I didn't beat him, I did once, but he complained that he didn't know it was TOC3 sanctioned, so we had another match, and I lost. Sometimes people would want to fight me, and even though I didn't want to fight them, they kept complaining to me, and threatened to tell that I cheated some how(even though I didn't). The preliminaries ended, and the real tournament was about to begin. I can't really remember who I fought, but I do remember fighting slk_rik for the semi-finals. He was the hostee of the match, but even lessons know that the hostee doesn't always win the overall fight! I won 3-1, but slk complained about my lag, andways, I was in the finals... and was glad. When I heard that fear beat Nferno, I was sad, and mad. Both of us wanted to fight eachother for the first time in the finals, and this was our best chance, but my student fear tetsuo beat him... I had a score to settle with him. When me and fear fought in the finals, it was like I was transed in a world, it was me and him alone in the darkness. There was battle field set for us, it was quiet.... The battle begun, fear beat me in match 1, and 2, I was down on the ground gasping for air. I thought of Nferno, and used his strength, and my determination to beat fear tetsuo in match 3. I was ready for part 4, but in match 4, it was like me vs Token all over again. He went over the edge, and I couldn't attack. It was round 3, if I lose this round, I lose the tournament. 2 Isn't a winner, 3 no one remembers, that was too true... as I looked at the 1st scores, it was me, Nferno, then Baller. No one remembers, or cares for Baller, and no one sees Nferno as a winner, just a strong opponent. Anyways it was round 3. In the final moments of the match, I had trouble super jumping, I tried my hardest, but couldn't get it off. I did get it off though, shot a shinkuu, and I thought I beat fear, suddenly he teleports behind me, and shoots a shinkuu of his own. "I lost" Those were the words in my head, and what were coming out of my mouth for 3 minutes. I was mad, but at the same time, I was sort of happy. Happy for fear, a student of mine got this good, and beat his master. I congratulated him(after throwing a fit). He won, but then I heard news that fear got DQed because of he told the password for drunken smashers to someone who wasnt part of the clan(the other person... man.. I forgot his user name, but I could remember him so much as a rival, and friend... I forget, well.. he got DQed, so I became the champ once again, but it didn't feel right. I wanted to win it by beating fear, not by DQ. DQ is never the answer. Though I won, I got no prize(most likely because the tournament was a half success, even I would admit that, and the participators, and creators too). Well, this is all I have to share about my TOC experience, I hope TOC4 is much better than the last 3 (blowing it out of the water). |

TOC I Well I had joined the game a while back and I had just heard about this tournament. I had seen Token, TarkanX etc. Fight and I found out they joined. I knew I wasn't good enough to join and I knew it would have been a waste. So I skipped this Toc. TOC II I do remember joining this one but not with the name i currently have. I really don

TOC
alas..wasn't around for this one TOC II Like Nferno666, I woke up late that day  TOC III I was in the community, and awake for this one. I had fun with Zing's new idea of having to e-mail him your wins after the end of each day. All I did for days was sit there and wait for a new person to come in, then send'em off to Zing. Thinking I had no chance of winning, I was quite surprised to find out I finished in the top 16. A thought came to my head.."Now I have a great chance of winning" Unfortunatly...that thought was short lived after finding out my first opponent...was..TarkanX. I was horribly rapped. But, I was hoping one of my clan members would win. Then I wouldn't feel too bad. Slk Rik, and PROfe$$or weren't doing to bad. But, I can't exactly remember, but i'm pretty sure Tarkan beat both of them. Still, all in all, it was my first major tourny, and I'm still pretty proud I made it into the top 16 TOC IV to be concluded....
