View Full Version : Localizing the chat - im a genius....i think

hmm ..heya TMyApp...is there a way to."localize" the chat...i mean is there a way to set it up so that you can tell if you are fighting some one from super long distance...and since you cant get a ping rating on some one in the chat unless they are actively fighting..and they challange you...

is there some other way you could devise the chat in order to make it so people can avoid fighting super long distance and high ping players?..or so you can tell if your gonna be fighting "cable vs 56k"?(or worse than 56k...how ever 56k is pretty much the norm at the moment i think)..if people could be more discerning in who they fought...you'd probably hear alot less bitchin' about lagg.and a bunch more "ata boy!"...

hmmm heres an idea! What if instead of the chat room select screen...you got to choose a location on a world map...and you would then enter the chat room..and only fighters from your choosen location will be displayed in the chat, and be available to challange.(regardless of there modem speed)... by setting up the chat channel screen like this.and haveing the players select wich part of the world they are coming from (or want to play in) it would localize the fighters and would make for less lagg and a more even match...as a plus side to this idea..it would help in preventing the chat room(big bertha) from getting jammed with players,if used properly...i think ...TMy,do you think it would work?

(sorry guys Lycos no longer allows the Forum to display images so i had to remove the picture.)
It was an image of a world map divided into 5 sections verticaly. Each section of the map would be linked to a corrosponding chat room...meaning only people from that persons part of the world would be in the room.If the room was empty you could still leave it and vist another chat room dedicated to a differant part of the world..but you would know in advance that there would probably be more lag than if you were fighting people from your own part of the world.

Good Idea except for this. Suppose I live in say England I want to face TarkanX who lives in say USA. How could I face him and suppose all the good players live in USA and you live in Canada you would never make the top score and remember. In the FAQ TMyApp said the best in the world, not YOUR part of it.

of course you could fight tarkan...you would just have to be in the same chat room as he was in...it would be the same as fighting him in Bigbertha...with all the same ping you'd normaly get in a match against him...but by fighting players from your part of the world SHOULD limit lagg..there would be nothing to stop an austalain who would normaly fights from chat "E" from fighting an american in chat "B" he'd just have to select chat "B"...but the Aussie would realize in advance that he was fighting super long distance and that it is gonna be laggy

Well mods, that someone was me. Neat idea Nosoul. I think it should be done. It would seriosly lessen the lag load! The only problem: the majority of XMvsSF players are located in america so the chat room for America would really be laggy.

Fantastic idea though!

in the original picture North and South Americas were spead between 2 chat channels..so instead of just one chat room geting slammed all the time like is currently happening...you'd inevitably have more people spread between 2 servers, and alot less users trying to cram them selves into the first chat on the list...and the rest of the world was broken up fairly evenly to accomidate the 3 remaining chat rooms.

so far im up to 7 positive responces to this topic including my self...and it's getting to be a pretty old topic...i hope EVERYBODY who reads this, likes the idea and thinks we should go with it...or something similar to it...and voices there opinion on this topic.

Bringing further organization through the introduction of localized chat rooms? I'm all for it. Good idea, nosoul4evr and leftyfb (I remember the 'f' in your name).
