View Full Version : Syncronisation issues - Type of connection the game uses?
One of my house-mates is trying to play SFO, and can't get it to work via our LAN. Being the resident geek I've been asked to fix it for him, heh.
Chat servers work fine (UNLESS 'behind a firewall' is turned on :), but the game itself doesn't syncronise.
Can somebody tell me how the syncronisation works? If you challenge a player does SFO connection -out- to the port, or does the challenged player connect -in- on the port? Does it use TCP or UDP?
Anything that'll help. Thanks in advance.
Options Change Your Port To 1626 (Defualt) Should Work Then. Unless There Somethin Wrong With The Comp

that's not right cuz that's my port and i can't fight alot of people sometimes it's just your connection with people so you need to find someone that can host but it could be your computer or shockwave player or something like that

if you are behind a router/firewall you need to have old connection mode and only old connection mode checked...and if you are behind a router/firewall you can NOT host games at all...you can only join them..if your trying to challenge ppl then that's your problem why your not able to connect with others

its TCP/IP !
it doesn't work o a lan, unless you're lan is connected on the net !
why ? because the game NEEDS to connect to the server ! and its the only way to connect, so if you're lan isn't connected to the net then the game won't work.
in any case, if you use a router, then you're router is the firewall, so unless you know how to set up your router for it to disable the integrated firewall and/or set it up for you to accept the port, then you are lost... you cannot host a game !
if you don't , then its your computer who has a problem or you have a software firewall !
in ay cases, the cynchronisation problem is due to those and i doubt it to be about the type of connection either !
SYNC = TCP/IP, since UDP is always UNSYNC
hope this answered your question about it !

That amused me =/. MeH you seem fairly normal not some rampant 12 year old.
And Nfernos pretty much got the right info for your question.
Hey dude that post this topic......u can make it UDP or TCp...u can change the ports u synchronize with......use port 80...because Firewall never close this port its only block it from an outside people....so i use the default port....and whenever i check im my firewalla options to watch this port..peple can connect to me...SO use port TCP 80 and default port is 1626 which is UDP

its not the connection its the port people use....it they use ports like 21 25 80 81 110 and so long...if their firewall listens to these ports u wont be able to connect because the firewall block ur connection...its same..when i use a software called Attacker..it listens to ur port..i put the ports in and when i hosted the ppl cant join my game..cause Attacker block them..and when i shut it down the connected just fine
