Well, the WWT is finished and RyusInvasion is the champion of the 128 monster tournament, the most ever in a tournament that has finished. The tournament hopefully impacted many players in that instead of fighting for rank, we could fight on who can be the best (but it seems that we are a long way from that). What I am going to discuss are: When we got the idea, statistics of the tournament, my reaction to the tournament and what this means to SFO.

It all started on April 24 2004 (about 5 months ago), I made an interesting point about having an official tournament. I said that it would bring more spice to the game and would make more people interested in fighting for skill instead of rank. The first ever official tournament was supposed to be TOC: Shadowloo Assult, but when Zing and Quass didn't get it above the ground, TMyApp said there wouldn't be anymore official tournament, unless we hosted 2-4 tournament with 60+ fighters (with a good % of people fighting).

We (The mods and admins) started talking about what would encourage people to sign up and fight and what would make it successful. We then decided we should combine our forces so that the mods/admins would be hosting a tournament (close enough to official). First, we started thinking of a name... most of the names we chose were unappealing, so then we decided on The World Warrior (the tournament I had made the year before), but to hide the shame of that tournament name, we switched the titles around a bit and called it the World Warrior Tournament. After the title, we started to plan a website and what sections it would have and what prizes there should be (We thought of giving 30 dollars to the winner, but many people here are too young to have an account on paypal or might be scared to get mail).

We started a help wanted program, some people will do job A, others will do job B and so on, it was so that we wouldn't have a hassle trying to control people. What Zing did trying to control 105 people was amazing, but the tournament fighters were older then, than now; Zing probably would've snapped if he had to handle 128 kids in 2004. We thought that this tournament would be so good, that it would get 70% of fighters to fight and would surpass TOC1 as the greatest tournament ever (I will explain this later).

Once we finished the website, we were able to start registration. We had the news about the tournament in the game (which would attract many players), registration was alright, even though there were some players who barely filled in anything other than their game name (which caused some ruccus).

For the fights of the tournament, I was somewhat dissapointed, but I wasn't surprised. We thought of getting 70% of people to fight, well, we didn't get close to that. Now some of you might be expressing emotions like "woah", "damn", well that's what I want you to feel, now here are the statistics.

*Note that the numerator represents how many fights there were, 2 people fighting each other represents 1 fight. The people that didn't fight represent DQed matches.

Round 1
----------
East: 8/16 = 50%

West: 4/16 = 25%

North: 5/16 = 31%

South: 4/16 = 25%

Total: 21/64 = 33%

-I thought there would be more fights in round 1, but I guess there weren't. The Eastern division took care of business the most (that's not saying much, though). The West and especially the South divisions dissapointed me.

Round 2
----------
East: 5/8 = 63%

West: 5/8 = 63%

North: 5/8 = 63%

South: 2/8 = 25%

Total: 17/32 = 53%

-This was a huge improvement over round 1, 3 of the 4 divisions fought over 60% of their matches (very good for a tournament nowadays, i guess). The South division once again tells why it was the worst division. 25% of people fought once again. It brought the Total % down somewhat, but I guess this round wasn't too bad, definately better than round 1.

Round 3
-----------
East: 1/4 = 25%

West: 1/4 = 25%

North: 4/4 = 100%

South: 1/4 = 25%

Total: 7/16 = 44%

-If the North division didn't exist, then round 3 would be the worst round in the tournament. The Southern division tells why it doesn't deserve to be in the tournament, the Eastern division, for some reason, only got 1 fight... it seemed that it was the best division by far.

Round 4
----------
East: 2/2 = 100%

West: 2/2 = 100%

North: 2/2 = 100%

South: 1/2 = 50%

Total: 7/8 = 88%

-Excellent round, any worse would've been a mockery to the tournament. With only 8 fights, 50% would've been a terrible turnout. South division doesn't get 100% of fights (not surprised), but it does get 50% (with only one fight, that would be the easiest thing to do).

Divisional Finals
----------------
East: 1/1 = 100%

West: 1/1 = 100%

North: 0/1 = 0%

South: 1/1 = 100%

Total: 3/4 = 75%

-Had Estset never gotten a virus (which forced him out of the tournament), the % of fights would be at 100%. South finally gets some appreciation, not much to say here, though.

Final Four
------------
East beats South

West beats North

Total: 2/2 = 100%

-Things got done here quickly, with only 4 fighters, this is pretty obvious.

WWT Championship Finals
--------------------------
RyusInvasion beats RyusRevenge 4-2

Total: 1/1 = 100%

-If RyusInvasion gave us a summary of the fight, I would have more to say here, too bad I don't.

World Warrior Tournament (Overall)
------------------------------------
East: 17/31 = 55%

West: 13/31 = 42%

North: 16/31 = 52%

South: 9/31 = 29%

Other: 3/3 = 100%

Total: 58/127 = 46%

The Eastern division is the best division, followed closely by the Northern division, the Western division is in the middle and the Southern division is obviously dead last. The total turn out of the tournament... 46%.... we wanted 70%, 24% off, that's a lot, that means we were 31 fights away from our goal. *sigh*, getting under 50% was even terrible, these players are supposed to be people who are dedicated to the game, heck, we even gave the fighters a week for the first 2 rounds and 5 days for the third round. It took one month to finish the tournament, TOC1 took 3 weeks to finish and had a better % of people fighting.

When we were starting this tournament, we wanted it to be better than TOC1, I guess TOC1 ranks head over shoulders above any other tournament. I wouldn't call this tournament a failure, it was the best that we could do, but TOC1 is just a tournament that stands alone. In sports, there are records that can't be broken or they are nearly impossible to brake, mainly due to different eras. Basketball for example, no one is going to get 100 points in a game (only one person did, 40 years ago), just because of different eras have made drastic changes to their games. I have explained that the game has changed in terms of the social aspect, there are much more players, but there is less dedication to the game. I don't think Zing would've done any better than we did, more or less, but.... besides Tournament of Champions I, this is the best tournament ever, ahead of TOC2 and TOC3 and a head of other tournaments that were made.

Another tournament is on the way, but registration won't happen until maybe 2 or 3 months from now, the team that worked on this tournament needs some rest, we worked hard for people to fight, we did our best and we have no regrets. We would like to make other tournaments, especially so that we can get an official one, but if I wanted an official tournament, I would want one with a good turn out and one with fighters playing at their best; I don't want random people who sign up and don't fight. I saw a post which stated that someone (won't mention who) didn't try, just because he was going up against an annoying fighter, if you're not going to try, then what is the point of joining? This is a tournament, a tournament means you have to win and to win, you have to do your best. I wouldn't be surprised if we shortened the number of people that can join the tournament, 128 is more than enough... we actually thought of having 256 fighters, I should slap myself for mentioning such an oblivious statement, not even Zing could handle that many people.

This tournament was for poeple who wanted to fight the best and it was to restore the game. I wanted people to fight instead of fighting some random ####ie who doesn't know what to do. I wanted this game to go back to it's old roots, not revert back to one or two characters and a few helpers, but I wanted people to fight like how people fought in the old days, unless we change the rank to make it so that the people who are better would be on top, then not even the greatest tournament ever with the greatest prize ever known would save the game from rank hungry fighters. Well... hopefully we can get things resolved, I saw some problems that could be corrected, but so did Zing with TOC1. This is a game with a lot of potential, but we can't just let rank hungry players dominate, we (the people who fight for honor) need to fight back, we need to set an example to the rank hungry fighters that this is not the way, it is the wrong path and will only lead to chaos. If we overwhlem them, which would require a lot of fighters who play with honor, then we can change this game, but that might not happen, people are too lazy even though they want something done about it. Thank you for those who read my log and fought in the tournament, and especially those who make the game better, one way or another.
