Rock vs rap - Ye ole debate

basically, i can kickass when listening to rock music in a fight, but when i listen to rap music, the most i can do is yawn.

Look Tupacwestsider seems to be leading the Rap side of the debate,and hmm Selvin,KKS,and Asshole are runnint the rock side with followers.

Ok, lets give some good points to rap...

Rap can be mixed with any kind of music,and still would sound interesting to hip hop fans...

Here is an example of Rock and Rap together in a song=

Run DMC and Aero Smith(I forgot the name of the song)

That was one of Aero Smith's best sngs,and one of Run DMC's best songs.

Rock can't go with everything...paint a image of Reggae and Rock together.....ewww.

Rock might sound cool with Techno....hmmm

When I'm playing games... And I have to listen to rap I only listen to two artist while playing fighting games...

Wu-Tang Clan=There music sounds like fighting music,and they have there own fighting game too.

In my opinion, rap is...well...crap. No offense to any rap fans here, but I can't stand it. First off, for the most part, my 13-year-old brother can come up with better lyrics. They sit there and "rap" about the dumbest shiznit in every song. Next, for the most part you can't even tell what the hell they're saying. The last part is the most important one, by the way:

They don't make their own MUSIC. The background music is mostly synthesized, with drums. The beat is repetitive. I've analyzed a bunch of rap songs. Throughout the ENTIRE songs, it's the same beat over and over and over again. Many times it's a single pound of the bass drum over and over. It's so repetitive, it's boring. Rap makes me tired, in all seriousness. If I want to fall asleep, I'll listen to rap, because the boring repetitiveness just knocks me out.

Well Nantuko, im guessing that you are a really stuburn person that just dont lisen to anyone elses opinions except yours. As ive said before, you lisen to what is on Main stream and automaticly think that all rap is like that. look what happend to curt cobaine(sorry if i spelt that wrong), Suicide. now what is the public going to think when they see that in the news?

When I used to lift weights in high school, we'd get in there and someone would either throw on a rock CD, or turn to a good rock station. Once a few good rock songs would come on, everyone would be pumped up. For me, if I hear a good guitar riff, I'm good to go. I'm pumped up. My adrenaline is going. I find that I have more weightlifting endurance while listenint to some good rock. Then some white boy assclown wannabe wearing FUBU runs over and throws on a rap CD. The effects are almost immediate. Everyone slows down. Gets more sluggish. We tire out faster. The repetitive beat just knocks ppl out

You are right, Rock music does get you pumped there is no doubt about it. No wonder so many people can do stupid #### when there lisening to rock, no wonder so many people that lisen to rock comit suicide, no wonder so many rock stars do drugs, no wonder theres so much violence in the community.

Now i just said that Rock is the cause of so much trouble in the community, but is that really true? Well i know the people that lisen to rock will disagree with me. Now why cant you understand it but the other way around?

So far we got 2 people(asshole and selvin) to admit that not all rap is bad. I dont have to say "Rock is Crap" to get my points out, my logic has coverd that all :buttrock:

Oh and also Rap also has its strong points, Rock might get you pumped but Rap just makes alot of things better to. I would say its better to dance to, and i dont know if its a bad thing but i like to "Dance". Is that a bad thing? ladies love dancing and i love ladies dancing so we dance. Or with friends come over and have nothing to do, well bust a beat and lets free flow and try to beat each other. Look at Basketball, most basketball videos have Rap in it, now i know what your going to say "Well most people that play basketball are black and black people lisen to rap". that might be part of it but when you have something with rap its more free flowing, its like its dancing to a beat, its smooth and shows more tricks to it.

Now rock will show more of the dunks, power moves, hard ass drive in's and Crazy madness. but crazy madness dosent work with everything thats why rock is being replaced with alot of video things in sports. like......

basketball
football
skateboarding
snowboarding
and more stuff that i just dont want to type cause it will take time.

PS: besides, rock came first. Without artists like the Rolling Stones, the Beetles, Otis Day and the Knights and Elvis Presley, there would be no rock music, no rap music, no techno, rave, disco, country, folk, ANYTHING. So I think we all owe something to rock music. Ya can't beat the father of all music....

Psssst. Opera and classical came first than Rock and does that make it any better than rock? i dont know if you know but rock copied a bunch of music, you cant say "Rock is the Father of all music" thats just wrong. "Rap didnt come from Rock IN NO WAY!!!!" its a combinations for Gospel, Blues and poetry and was started in NYC.

Nantuko Joe, you need to really be more open minded about all types of Music. The reason why alot of White people (KKK) are still racist with black people because there closed minded about all kinds of races. You just have to give it a chance, but i know that there is that kind of people that are so stuborn that they will do anything to prove themselfs right with out giving it a chance for a while.

Rap, Rock, whats the difference? They make people happy dont they? The what is the big deal? There are Rap haters and there are Rock haters. Why be a hater?

Actually, I hadn't read a single post in this topic when I made that reply, so anything you said in the 6 pages before I made that post went unrecognized by me.

Second, I do NOT listen to what's "mainstream." I listen to underground ######## too, and pretty much, EVERY SINGLE rap song I've heard has the same exact qualities as the rest of them:
-Lyrics thrown together in 5 min (or so it seems)
-Repetitive underlaying "beat" (usually a bang on the bass and repeat that over and over)
-The "music" itself sounds like what comes out when you hit the "demo" button on an electric keyboard.

Finally, Kurt Cobain, in my opinion, was murdered, because there is substantial evidence that supports the theory that he was set up. However, IF he DID kill himself, it wasn't by free will. It was well-known that he WAS a heroin user, and heroin does all kinds of wacky ######## to yer brain.

And rap is being replaced in Basketball and Football because the majority of players in those sports....are african american. And I've never met an african american who didn't like rap. However, you're terribly wrong about skateboarding and snowboarding, Hell, I don't know if you could get FARTHER from the truth. Professional skateboarders and snowboarders listen to punk rock, because the skateboarding generation began with punk rock back in the '80s.

Take a look around at yer rap artists. I believe one of them was just arrested for possession of cocaine and marijuana. I believe that one of them was arrested for some shootings at a nightclub. I believe a few of them have been arrested at some point or another for drugs and harassment. And when was the last time there was an east coast/west coast rivalry with rockers, resulting in their deaths? What's that? Did you say "never?" That's what I thought. When I say "rock pumps me up," I'm in no way implying that rock music pumps me up to the point of wanting to do crazy ########. I'm saying that it WAKES me up, that the sound of electric guitar gives me energy, because it's a very powerful type of music. Rap is all done artificially, with beats that sound like keyboard demos.

I'm talking about '90s mainstream. Classical music and opera were restricted to theatres. Rock music began this mainstream thing: concerts, public appearances, and releasing of albums so the public wouldn't need to go see them live to hear their music. Rock started it all.

While everyone else I've ever asked about rap said that it was a mix of a bit of disco, a bit of gospel (which both came about as a result of rock back in the day), and "tribal beats" as they put it (I guess they mean african tribal music), you're sitting here saying it's blues and poetry and gospel. I was talking about how people defend what they are most knowlegable about, and you did just that. When i dissed on Rock you came back and tryied to cover up for Rocks mistakes and then shot mistakes that Rap has. I expected you to post that, i could of even beted money that you were going to do that.

Dont tell me you havent heard anything like that in the US? When colombine insident happend they blamed it on Marilon Manson. Now i dont know about you but it makes sense to me because i saw it on the news. When some dude comited suicide awhile ago they blamed it on blink 182. and the list goes on and on.

There were witnesses to Tupac and BIG's shootings. Cobain was murdered. There's evidence to support this, A LOT. Anyways, the murders of Tupac and B.I.G. was merely one example i used in that post.

I'm not a boarder, so everything you said about PissedJaggers and whatnot is like me attempting to read greek. And just because ppl put rap in videos for skating doesn't mean that the skate community is becoming rap. Skate and punk rock go hand-in-hand.

Because fcuking stupid-ass parents THINK that rock music has hidden messages. They did the same thing back in the day. The parents thought that KISS was evil and the spawns of the devil. They thought that Elvis Presley was evil. And in the '80s, they seriously thought that Ozzy Osbourne seriously believed he was the anti-christ, and tried to ban his music. Whenever a tragedy happens, the fcuking idiot parents and/or government tries to blame it on something that is totally stupid. Rock music doesn't make ppl go shoot ppl. Playing Grand Theft Auto isn't gonna make ppl go out and trash cars and shoot people. Watching violent movies/television isn't gonna make ppl more violent. ONE of the reasons that I don't like rap is because (and I mean not to offend, if it offends you) I can't stand it when white people listen to rap and try to be black. You can't believe how much I can't stand it when I see some white kid decked out in FUBU walking around speaking in rap slang. That's one of the big reasons I can't stand rap.
