Yes.. until you just start playing better (for whatever reason). I fought somewhere around a thousand games from Dec. 2001 - Feb. 2002, and played about the "same" all the month of February. But after taking a break, I came back in April 2002 and was at my pinacle. However, that was only with Ryu. In April, I started experimenting with other characters, and it improved my overall game (and dropped some of my previous bad habbits with Ryu).

What you're talking about sounds a bit like you're getting too redundant with your strategies (ie: using just Akuma). Maybe taking a break off the game and/or experimenting with other characters will improve your game.
