During the first TOC tournament the first clans were created.
Actually, the first clans were created before TOC, it was during Ryu's Drunken Brawl.

I think fear-tetsuo won the best out of 5 but got disqualified for cheating. TarkanX had the special red ryu with the special sentinel who used to run all over the screen. I think it was taken away from him during the release of N.O.T.S (Night of the Sentinels)...
The Red Ryu and Red Sentinel were taken away from me before the start of TOC3, which was at the same time as the jump lock implention.

When TMyApp released TAG mode i was excited to see how it came out. When i entered the game i found out how much it changed.. IN A BAD WAY... The lag was probably the worst lag i ever saw.. I was beating the elite fighters like they have just signed in the game... Then tmyapp fixed most bugs and lag and put it back to *normal* well at least a lil close to *normal* tag mode scared away alot of vets making them retire for good.
It didn't scare away the vets, we hated it, because it was too slow. It wasn't the fast paced action that we were keen to, and it was very hard to get off your moves. It was like the world's fastest runner having his legs covered in molasses.

ramziel didnt like it. professor didnt like it. he left the game and the shotokan masters. and many other vets had left... Tag Mode was really most of the reason why vets have left the game. (Even though it was one of tmyapp's hardest work) Then people started caring less of the game..
Although tag mode played a big role in the departure of veterans, there are other reasons, like lack of time, etc... Tag Mode (even though TMyApp put so much work into it) really depleted the value of the game. If there was no tag mode, then players like Tantum would be playing this game a lot, instead of never (Tantum even admitted this to me a few days ago). If tag mode was gone, I would still be playing the game on a consistent basis, instead of once a month.

Now that I really think about it... What happened?
Many things....

Who or what caused the slow destruction of the community?
again, many things made the community deteririorate (spelling?). Although people would think it was the ####ies off-head, it's not entirely their fault. If someone who had a great fighitng spirit and never cared for rank, even though he was rank 1 had told and trained the ####ies of the game that rank doesn't mean anything, then the ####ies wouldn't be this bad... sadly, my skills are at waste and no rank 1 (after tag mode) player has done that, or had the time to.
Tag Mode was like an atom bomb, I think that is a good reason (like dominicankid said) why you don't see as many people registered from 2001 or early 2002, and many who are registered from those times don't play the game much.
Disorganization is also another thing. Have you counted how many "tournaments" have been made after TOC3 and how many were successful (almost to the level of TOCI)? Yeah, none; the people that make these so called tournaments don't put in the time and effort to make them good. If you see the old topics in the chalenges and tournaments section, you can see that Zing strained his ass just so that the tournament can be considered the best ever, you don't see many people putting as much work as he did. Hopefully, and for the sake of this community, the World Warrior Tournament can fix this.

ever since tag the vets lost interest in the game... but it just made it a little interesting for me... People would just play tag and just use the power of the variable attack to win games... some would start the game in level 3 to start the variable as soon as the fight begins.. but tmyapp fixed that and now u can only start on level 2 but i think shouldnt be that way... there shouldnt be a choice on what level you start on... mainly because 1. most likely the first supers you throw wont connect so quickly in the game 2. if the player is lucky to get it connected it would be a cheap way to win.
Supers thrown immediately in a match will almost always connect (if it is a beam super), and who cares about cheap wins when your rank goes up?

Now I check out the topscores... and it's like i dont know anybody there.. before top scores were reserved for the top fighters of the game WITH SKILL... but now it is open for any new person who joins the game cause they dont even have to fight the best to get the points... They can go ahead and beat a person ranked 100 about 30 times and you would be in good rank...
It's trully a sad thing. These players have skill, they also have the potential, but they aren't unlocking it, because they aren't fighting players that aren't at their skill level, or even close to it.

At same time people are not making much of an effort to make the game a little more fun... All I see is Liger Zero and pip99 hosting a tournament which is going quite slow.. Then there is tarkanx hosting the world warriors tournament and we will see how he handles that tourney...
We need more effort in this community, fighitng and planning, but we don't have that effort. And it's not exactly my tournament, it's the tournament made by the moderators and some VIP members; we are going to try our best to make this thing better than TOCI, and Dominican, you say that our tournament won't be as good as TOCI, is it because our tournament doesn't have the well praised fighters of the past? Why don't you think this will be as good as TOCI?

And cause of this I am going to make sure to help this game out.. I never contributed to this game.. never donated.. but i know i can contribute in someway. I got to start on my blueprints
If you have plans, AIM me at CenturionMario, and put me on your buddy list. I'm not on everyday, and when I'm on, it's usually at 3:00am EST.

Also, can you tell me what the ranking system was then?
The ranking systems when the game was into its first months wasn't a "battle as much as you can" type rank. Even though it is the same as now (although the first top scores wasn't). The first top scores was basically, who ever had the highest win - loss ratio is rank one, so if I was 15-5, then I would have a ratio of 10, and someone that is 20-15 would have a ratio of 5, luckily, players nowadays didn't play back when the game just started.
Even with the first rank, people fought to better their fighting skills. As more top scores went by, people were fighting more for rank and this was first evident in the 2nd top scores. There was a player by the name of MegaPower21 I don't remember if it was a male or female, but MegaPower21 just kept fighting so much for rank, and it took to the last day before the 3rd ranks started that me and Nferno had to top MegaPower21. We had to stay up through the midnight and play non-stop just to hold that person down. Think of what would happen if MegaPower21 had become first, new players would copy off of MegaPower21's maneuvers of getting rank, and the game would be even worse starting from January 2002.
The rank system got worse with its 3rd rank, people actually started fighting for rank, instead of fighting skills, and form there, it just went downhill. With no one who had the heart to be a great fighter and still be rank 1, there was nothing we could do to stop this tyrrany.

Tournaments.... I dont know what to do about that. If people liked tournaments even when there were no prizes, I dont know why they are dying...
The majority of people nowadays would rather have rank than tournaments, and the tournaments that are made are very sup-bar, and little effort put into them.

I WILL BE THE ONE TO HOST THE FIRST "BE AS CHEAP AS YOU WANT HERE" Tournament.
People have tried these, and they are still doing these things (which means they aren't working). One instance is the no projectile tournament (even though that tournament is still going on, from the looks of things, it looks like it might die out a slow death like Ryu's Drunken Brawl), if you do something like this, even if planned very well, it still might not have the flavor of a "great" tournament.
