Not all rap is bad. why does everybody think that all rap songs are bad and should be banned from society. there is good rap and bad rap. there is good rock and bad rock. i hear some of yall say that rap lyrics are bad and degrading. and i quote "NOT ALL RAP IS BAD"

Well, time for my two cents.

In my opinion, rap is...well...crap. No offense to any rap fans here, but I can't stand it. First off, for the most part, my 13-year-old brother can come up with better lyrics. They sit there and "rap" about the dumbest shiznit in every song. Next, for the most part you can't even tell what the hell they're saying. The last part is the most important one, by the way:

They don't make their own MUSIC. The background music is mostly synthesized, with drums. The beat is repetitive. I've analyzed a bunch of rap songs. Throughout the ENTIRE songs, it's the same beat over and over and over again. Many times it's a single pound of the bass drum over and over. It's so repetitive, it's boring. Rap makes me tired, in all seriousness. If I want to fall asleep, I'll listen to rap, because the boring repetitiveness just knocks me out.

Rock, on the other hand, is more alive. You can't beat the feeling you get when your favorite song comes on. Rock lyrics don't sound like they were made up spur-of-the-moment as they were recording the song. They don't talk about getting drunk and toking up blunts and fcuking bitches all day long. They have stories or themes or REAL messages behind them, and they're not what I just said above. Also, the sheer force of the electric guitar and bass wakes me up. It's heavy, it's electric, and it gets my adrenaline pumping. If I hear a good song from Andrew WK, Rammstein (especially Du Hast), Disturbed, or especially Metallica, i get pumped up. It's not the same repetitive underlying beat like rap, but it's a smorgesboard of guitar and bass and drums and sometimes keyboard. Let me use an example:

When I used to lift weights in high school, we'd get in there and someone would either throw on a rock CD, or turn to a good rock station. Once a few good rock songs would come on, everyone would be pumped up. For me, if I hear a good guitar riff, I'm good to go. I'm pumped up. My adrenaline is going. I find that I have more weightlifting endurance while listenint to some good rock. Then some white boy assclown wannabe wearing FUBU runs over and throws on a rap CD. The effects are almost immediate. Everyone slows down. Gets more sluggish. We tire out faster. The repetitive beat just knocks ppl out. Another example:

At my work (a truck unloader for a retail store), most of my co-workers like rap better than rock, including my supervisor. However, as of late, when we'd be getting bigger trucks filled with heavier shiznit, he'd tell me to throw on one of my rock CDs or rock mixes. It's because while listening to rap, most of the ppl back there will slow down to the point of flat-out laziness. What should take them 30 seconds instead takes them 2 minutes. Once the rock music turns on, the pace is increased dramatically. We're moving faster. We're working harder. I myself can work longer, harder, and faster than normally. Rock music gives me (and most other rock fans) a sort of energy that can't be described. I get more awake, more alert. A 200-pound marble table that would have given me trouble lifting is now being carried around with ease.

Then some ppl are like "oh, well you can't dance to rock. Rap is better for dancing." Screw dancing. Dancing is mad gay. This one wannabe who used to work back with us used to try to dance, saying he was like the best dancer in his school or some ########. What he said it took him a year to learn to do, I replicated it in about a minute with minimal mistakes. Personally, unless a guy is doing a slow dance with a hot chick or girlfriend (so he'd have a better chance of getting a little some-some), he shouldn't be dancing. As far as parties go, parties nowadays are gay. All they are is a ########load of posers who play rap all nite and get drunk and get leid. That's not a party. I don't know why ppl call them parties. They should be called orgies or drunkfests. Not parties. Very few ppl nowadays know how to throw a REAL party, with some rock music, food, and SOME beer/alcohol, with a pool table and/or a foozball table, and a FEW hot chicks. Overall there should be no more than like 10-15 ppl, instead of the 50+ person house crashers we've got nowadays.

Overall, considering lyrical content, and especially the beat of the music, rock wins, hands-down. I see NO argument.

PS: besides, rock came first. Without artists like the Rolling Stones, the Beetles, Otis Day and the Knights and Elvis Presley, there would be no rock music, no rap music, no techno, rave, disco, country, folk, ANYTHING. So I think we all owe something to rock music. Ya can't beat the father of all music....

Well I do pretty much agree with Tupac except for the fact that I do hear some underground rap groups that are good. In a sense, that is my point. I've always liked mainstream and underground rock bands, but I seem to only like underground rap groups. 99% of the rap artists I've seen that are stars now have sold out in one way or another.

She is punk-pop, so she is mainstream and "acceptable" to be played on radio hourly. Who cares though, she's as hot as hell!! :buttrock:

Nantuko dancing is not gay (but people who cant dance usually think so) :laughlong:

and yeah its true that most rap artist talk about drugs but so do rock groups.... like umm Weezer most of there song talk about dope...
and as for the song making no sense maybe you just didnt get them ??? .....(you try explaining clint eastwood) its a good song but i only like it cause a certain rap artist( Del the funky homosapian) made a cameo
and besides if rap is no good then why are lots of rock groups using rappers in there songs... linkin park, limp bizkit, gorrilaz, etc. even the song "Walk this way " was better with Run DMC.....
and rock wasnt first..... folk songs and church hymes trace back way before people started rock music.
and just so ya know , all rap groups are not negative.....cause i myself listen to groups like
Jarrasic 5, shorty groove, Del, Swollen members, De la soul....just ask i got a million of 'em

Look that is just u, u may get pumped up by rock and not rap
put it is not like that on everyone. I know tons of raps songs that get ppl crunked up. And that whole rock, and hearing a good guitar riff gives u a Boost in strength LOL whatever :laughlong:

Ounce again we dont rap about drugs and hoe's 24/7. And whats this? U dont believe anyone in this forum can get a alive feeling out of rap? Rappers taek the time to sit and write things down.

Not true, almost every rock and rap song has drum beat over and over in a song. Rappers make own music lol, No need they can create sounds without guitars. I find the same instruments boring. So I like the fact how they just take a lil of this and that to make somthing new. And about drums go look at a black college marching show band nuff said.
Quote:
for the most part you can't even tell what the hell they're saying.
Know adays I see most rappers have slowed down in speed so i can hear the lyrics just fine. Now as for rock all the loud guitars I see why some of them have to scream in teh mike. Rappers have more control of thier music in vloume then rock.

.......U cant dance is what I take it. And if you or anyone else is in highschool and u go to a pep rally notice what kind of music they play. Special when the cheerleaders perfrom. Mostly rap not rock and most of the ppl in teh stands might know the lyircs and sing it out loud.
