Here's the facts:

Number of deaths due to four Florida hurricanes in 2004: 117
Number of deaths due to Aceh earthquake and tsunami in 2004: 120,000+
Homeless due to Florida hurricanes: 11,000
Homeless due to Aceh earthquake/tsunami: 5,000,000
US government aid to help Florida hurricane victims: $2.04 billion
US government aid to help Aceh earthquake/tsunami victims: $35 million
Estimated cost of George bush's upcoming inaguration celebration, not including security costs: $40 million
US government direct cost, per hour, of the US war in Iraq: $9 million

Is the USA not doing enough for these 5,000,000 left homeless and those 150,000+ dead in asia?

1025 times more died in the asia tragedy.

The US government gave 57 times more money to the victims in florida.

Doesn't that seem the least bit unfair?

I could begin to find the amount of money the US government gave to 911 victims, but it would be too much work.

Im not really into politics, the whole conspiracy thing ect.. ect.. Though wouldnt it seem logic to give more money to these people in Asia. Just goes to show how cruel the world has become. I try to look at it this way. If this had happen to us, then I would hope most of the rich countries would lend a helping hand. but anyways this kind of stuff is always two sided and I dont like debating lol.. Also I have done absolutely no research on the topic so.. I'll stay out from any heated debates.. waste of my time anyways debating on subject such as this.

That does seem a bit unfair.. However, the way I see it, it is not the US's responsibility to take care of other countries, it's that country's responsibility. Now I'm not saying to screw over those people, but they should look to their own country for help. but I do think the US should donate alittle more...

It isn't the US's responcibility to take care of other countries?

We've invaded country after country, INCLUDING IRAQ for the "saftey and well being of their people".

but when it comes to giving money for a tragedy, we are a little short.

I mean, look at this statistic:

US government aid to help Florida hurricane victims: $2.04 billion (as in $2,040,000,000
US government aid to help Aceh earthquake/tsunami victims: $35 million (as in $35,000,000)

That's a $2,005,000,000's for 119,883 less dead victims.

yea i see what ur sayin but the prob wit that is that the countries affected are very poverty stricken places so looking to their own country is pretty much useless

just to specify my post was directed to the one before vf's but we posted around the same time and his came up before mine

VF: I'm pretty sure it's not.. Although the US usually steps in anyway.

Ken: I know, and that's why I think the US should give some more.

u confuse me..america is famous for causing destruction all ova the world? you make it sound like america is the only country that can help ..i mean there are others. why dont u make a comparison with americas spending in contrast to the other countries then make the verdict of how much effort is being put in.
