Blah it has to change U.S. is wasting too much money one dumb kids.

-We should do like some other countries do, teach kids till they finish middle school then make them take entrance exams each year in high school and if they make less than a 65 teach them a trade and kick them out of high school.

-Why try to teach kids when they don't want to
-Why make kids repeat grades when it only wastes money on schools

I agree......and the government should make it harder to get a job if you dont have a high school diploma.

that way, more kids will stay in school

no, more kids will DROP OUT OF SCHOOL. statistically, the contry average in standerized tests is 52%.

so, 52% of kids will drop out of school. do you want this?

what kind of futer will america have is more than half of america's youth will work meger and stale, unproductive jobs?

this will CRIPPLE AMERICA.

education is a RIGHT, not a privllage.

the government should just be BETTER WITH SCHOOLS instead of making them worse.

because if you really kick out all the stupid kids, what are you doing? you're giving everyone an unequal chance at lives. those who are smart, (statistically wealthy) will go on to have great jobs, but those who are dumb (statistically poor, urban and a minority, occasionally even MENTALLY INCAPASITATED) will not get a good job, and end up giving their life to hell.

Actually I have to disagree with wavemaster. That would only result in MORE people dropping out as vf stated. Also what makes you think they will want to learn a trade.. when they dont even wont to learn how to read and write or answer a few math questions. Its not up to the goverment to MAKE children learn its up to the children. Sure we could make getting jobs harder without a highschool diploma. Though if we did what would that accomplish... hmm how about MORE poverty than there already is.
To get kids interested in learning school work we must find ways to make it INTERESTING to kids that is. If some kid ACTUALLY was interested in MATH they would succeed in math. Same goes for anything eles. Take a kid who plays video games 24 hrs a day. The kid is intrested in the video game he wants to see what his character will do.. how the story will unfold and what he can accomplish. Now some video games of today require atleast some train of thought to master them. Why not put that effort into learning enlish grammar , or math. See we must not make SCHOOL HARDER rather SCHOOL MORE INTERESTING. American kids have SO MUCH OTHER things to find INTERESTING that school work clearly falls to the way side.
So in closing the educational system in America as far as "material, degrees, exams... ect.." are fine. We just need to find a way to make these things more interesting.

well this wouldn't be a problem, if we taught our students, more, why do you think the U.S. has the lowest average. other counrtries are less strict, but harder work, so the result is better, hell if the schools wanted they could stop using the dewey decimal system and use the socratic method.

I guess i wasn't clear

Teach the failures a trade like, City Services, Mechanic, Farmer, and such they would still be making the same money as those who do these.

Making Schools interesting...they have been doing that for years but it is making little progress and costing money in the school's budget.

Yeah it is up to the children if they want to learn a trade but this will motivate some people to change there attitude if they want to survive, And they will have to work harder if they want to get a good job. but what is the point on teaching kids that don't want to, sooner or later they will dropout anywayz but this method cleans out the bad students out faster

The exam will test the intelligence but past teachers will also talk about there behavior in school and the progress they have made, so they can still be in school if they try but if they don't want to behave, learn, or do anything else, then kick them out or teach them a trade that they would like

I do not want to take an entrance exam each year I'm in high school!

Your ideas are stupid. Kicking kids out of school because they're dumb instead of trying to help them? Wow, thats a smart idea... :sarcasm:

The fear of being kicked out of school because you're too dumb would put too much pressure on students, therefore there will be more failures due to increased stress put on students. Instead of kicking out dumb kids out of school, why not try to help them? Jeez...

I don't have alot of things to say about this subject, but I can say, that you should first put yourself in the shoes of a student thats "lives" in your world, where students get kicked out of school if they're too dumb and see how it would feel.

You only came up with this idea because you're already a smart student whose in IB courses, therefore you have no idea how it's like to be a person who is struggling in school. Of course I wouldn't either, but put yourself in the shoes of a person who just came to America and they wanted to really become a surgeon. I don't think your idea would benefit them.

Actually, you learn all you need to be a decently intelligent person by the time you finish 8th grade. Highschool is un-needed. After you finish middle school, you should be taken in with professionals and gone over what sort of field you should go into. It'd be interesting to see how it'd work, and it definitely would be rather 'shaky' at first, but you honestly don't need highschool. In fact, since I've been in highschool, I've taken nothing but college classes and the English/History/Science classes they make me take since I already took all the math stuff. And, in English classes, you don't really learn too many more things. The books you read don't affect you if you aren't interested in the given topics. Science is un-needed unless you're going into those fields, and History is usually a repeat of itself over and over aside from Gov't and Eco. Anyways, our current system is a bit of a waste in the money department, and it could definitely be re-done. I also agree with what many countries (like Germany) do. They force kids to take a year (it might be two; I forget) in the military. This is a great thing, for it helps others understand what the military is all about, get people who will be in the military a head start, and keep people in shape after school.
