lol. There's no such thing as button mashing in street fighter, as the only attacks are three punches, three kicks and those few special attacks with each character. Good 'ol 2D fighters! Nice try, though :alien:

Damn these emoticons are horrible.

Well my friend. Street fighter is the father of all button mashers. I remember when street fighter 2 first hit the arcades in 1989-1990, i would see kids standing in line to get to the cabinet, lured by dreams of victory. Only to be have these dreams crushed by a hyper-active five year old using his palm to hit all six buttons at once.

Im not saying im against button mashing, i'v used it many a time myself in situations of frustration. Its not a play style, its a tool. Much like the special attacks. Ifused properly its a valued tactic. But using it constantly is a hinderence to yourself.Leaving yourself open for attack and decreasing your block speed.

I agree with your comment about the icons. :buttrock: This little guy annoys the hell out of me.

Now PiP, i know im also new around here. And trust me, if you say your a good "Sent" player then i belive you, having not played you myself i have nothing to go by.
But one of the great things about the online community is that, there is allways allways some one better then you. As im sure any martial arts teacher will tell you, "never underestimate your opponent" . Dont just argue with HadokenMan, any five year old can do that. Set a time and a place and fight him, All you can do is learn from the battle. That goes for everyone, learning from each other is the only way you can become a true master at anything, Thats why we have this thread. You never know, Hadokenman may have something up his sleave. You just dont know untill you go to find out.

And now my Ryu tactics so im not pointlessy whoring.

I usually get up close and use a barrage of light to medium punches..Then while the opponent is recovering I put in a hard kick or occasionally a super-move. I know the light punches dont do much damage, but the fraction of damage they do deal , may be all i need to turn the fight in my favour......

ok on a side note im the leader of

the Missfits clan were a great clan and have been around from the beginning and ive been a member for 2 years and me and prank made a login name called Missfit ages ago .....meh thats like our name but w/e.
MeH

anyways i played Hadokenman

1st round pip99 wins
2nd round pip99 wins

Winner = pip99

Aww well.

Regards button bashing that donest work on streetfighter.

The Misfit screen name refers to my Tattoo (which is the crimson ghost, the known logo of the Misfits) sorry if it causes any confusion.Didnt mean it too.

you fought Haddoken man and won. Congratulations.

When i refer to button mashing, I refer to hitting the attack buttons randomly. Taking no time to think of the cause and effect of your actions.
Button mashing mostly occured back in the arcades and on home consoles. I distinctly remember rolling a golf ball around the buttons on my snes to defeat Balrog in the original sf2.
Ok yes, the golf ball tactic wouldnt work now days (unless you have a joypad) But randomly hitting any button and not learning the moves does happen..

To better prove my point i turn you over to the VG cats

Button mashing 101

Exaclty, thats what i was trying to say all along.

Iv been playing alot with Akuma lately. He's not as fast but hes a little bit stronger then Ryu. I get more results by using the light to moderate attacks up close then fading back and opening up some long range "whoop-ass".Then i take to the skys to unleash the special move.
Yes this is pretty simple, but done fast enough the yielding effects are devastating.

...And what I was trying to say was you can't use a button mashing technique as all attacks are derived using the directional keys/joystick. It'd be different if you were playing a 3D platform beat 'em up because in them alot of attacks are performed by pressing two attack buttons simultaneously, hence button mashing becomes the more indiscreet, realistic technique. In SF or most animated fighters (e.g...... mortal kombat), button mashing can't techically be displayed when playing the game. That doesn't mean you can't prove your skills are below average by using a golf ball instead of your hands, though.

*looks at forum* Crap, I haven't been here in a while.... Anyway lets clear some things up...
1. Yes, pip99 and I fought and yes, pip99 won. When I said "you could be one of them," you said, "Dude, your obviously new around here." What was that supposed to mean? I've been here for a while, and just because my Member level is "####ie", trust me, I'm not new. I did learn things from my fight with you, and said that it works MOST of the time, and there are some good Sentinel fighters.^_^
2. Thanks Misfit for your quote. I do believe that you should never underestimate your opponent. Everyone learns from losses and wins alike, and I'm sure that both ofus learned from the fight between us pip, other than "You won, I lost".^_^ Oh and Misfit, I happen to use your tactic often.
3. "Getting back on Topic" Ah yes, the 'button mashing"....That can get you nowhere on SFO, just because there is always a way to get around that. But doing that upclose can create some pretty nice combos, and wouldn't be considered in the "Cheap" department^_^.
4. RYU TACTIC: The Dragon Punch(shoryuken) can lead to a nice air combo if done correctly. If I am up close creating combos"not exactly button mashing," or the opponent has jumped, I follow up with a Dragon Punch then superjump to him/her and either do a series of Hardkicks or continous Hadoukens. Dragon Punches can also be helpful in avoiding attacks from above. *looks at posts* *sighs* I guess I'll rest my hands for a while.
