Stem cells - Possibly cure for all diseases?

"Stem cells have the remarkable potential to develop into many different cell types in the body. Serving as a sort of repair system for the body, they can theoretically divide without limit to replenish other cells as long as the person or animal is still alive. When a stem cell divides, each new cell has the potential to either remain a stem cell or become another type of cell with a more specialized function, such as a muscle cell, a red blood cell, or a brain cell." - The national institute of health

As many people on this forum may know already stem cell research has been the discussion of alot of debates in the past and recently up to now. My question is why would we hesitate to advance this technology to help mankind? I really think that advancing this technology would greatly benefit our life and add alot more years to the human average age of death which varies from country to country. What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you think Stem Cells are the future cures of diseases such as AIDS, Cancers and alot more of "un-curable" diseases? Also do you think that Stem Cell research should not take place at all, for If so please state a reason for your response.

:sleepy: well....im not for it...killing someone is killing someone and thats what there doing one person can change the world for the better like Dr.King you need to understand that..people these does dont take deaths so serious anymore...they just go...what you know so and so died today..that person could of done something then people wanna go and get all sad and mad that one of their family members death..you should care if someone is getting raped and then killed its just wrong...how would you feel if it happened to someone close to you...

well I know this feeling cause one of my friends g/f got robbed and then murdered that stuff is not kool...technology some of its good some of its bad...mainly bad I just think this earth is going to rough times...everyday something bad happens...someone dies or gets into a shark attack now...the thing in london and in iraq right now...and so many other issues so I think in overall its bad.. :whatsthat:

What about abortion? It is really interesting the goverment supports abortion, but the goverment is so against stem cell research. I think we have "confusing morals" about science in general. Also on the shark attack situation. If we were to advance stem cell research to its fullest we could save lives from even those types of attacks. Being since we could grow new legs, arms, and organs through stem cells. Cells are the basic unit of life and we are multi-cellular organsims. People die from diseases that kill certain kinds of cells in our body. Replacing these cells with new cells and possible in-hanced cells through stem cell research we could do wonders....

aboration...isnt cool either..and about sharks...all you would have to do is send them all to the alantic...much space...no chance humans will be in danger then...then about stem cells..first off its a guess they dont even know if it works..so your killing a person to see if something works..and were not nameks..and some people I know its hard to believe dont care if they parts of their bodies they say they want people to like them for them not cause there missing a arm or leg now tell me how you would you feel if someone liked you cause of..lets see..cause you were fast but you lose a leg wouldnt you still want them to like you and only you for who you are? ???

if people wanted to stay with no leg, they wouldn't get a prosthetic leg or a wheelchair. The reason why stem cell research is banned while abortion is not, is because of Bush.

The congress is able to stop abortion from being banned because they're all not bible thumping false prophets, while bush (who is a bible thumping false prophet) was able to get stem cell research banned. I don't understand why you would want to ban something that could save so many lifes. we have them anyway, and you can get stem cells from more than just aborted fetuses. Bush is just abusing his power and running the country with religion.

so thus there is nothing wrong with stem cell research becuase it does not actually kill anyone, i would comment further and go into abortion, but i don't want this turning into a religous debate like many other topics...
