Reality shows may be stupid to you, but to a producer and television station it is a gold mine. People watch because that get to watch other people screw up and get to control their fates in some cases (American Idol, Big Brother, etc...) and also, there are no actors so it is free. The main people in reality shows get paid squat or near squat. Reality shows are stupid, but they are the easiest way for a producer to get rich and quick.
