Some "new comers" would care. If they make an account, and are learning how to play. Sure, they can "practice" in story mode. But what kind of practice is that if they can't compare their skills to other fighters. I'm sure they would care if score didn't count for them til they got better.

It's important to think about all the players. Even the new players. Cuz who know? They could be the next high rank holder.
