The same colors can be troublesome if the following situation occurs...

You're playing 2on2 and the game happens to be glitchy with your partner coming in the fight and staying in for long periods of time... just then, your opponents do a variable and they're both in. Suddenly, one of the Ryu's starts doing his special and you don't know if that's your teammate Ryu or opponent Ryu and you're forced to dodge that Ryu's specials anyway to stay on the safe side thus messing up your way of playing.

Or it could be that you do a variable with your teammate and don't know which Ryu your teammate is or which Ryu to avoid specials from... you get the idea.

These are just an examples that do occur and when they do they can most definitly decide the outcome of a match. Having more than one color for VIP's is a win/win add on. It would just make the game more polished and convenient to know which one you are (or who your teammate is so you know which opponent to attack during a variable)
