thats cuz the question isnt mathematically correct... when your trying to find out x in this example : x at the power of 3 take away 27 or x^3 - 27, you need a total as in x^3 - 27= 0 then u can say x = 3; 3^3 - 27=0 cuz 3^3 = 27...
