Answer...
Priority...The location and direction of your opponents super move has a higher priority than the appearance of his character location and direction.

What happened?
You jumped behind your opponent...they jumped away from you and Supered before you could hit them with your attacks.

Way to prevent this from happening?
Optimizing your computer by shutting off all unneccessary programs running in your Task Manager, proper computer maintenance, a faster/stronger CPU and GPU...and a high speed ISP wouldnt hurt either.
