Well if he is intending to beat you up..
Just tell him how you did it, and how its easy to do, and of course only a joke.
Then if he still threatens to smack you, just say "why you waving your handbag around, it was only a joke"

That should cause a few laughs from onlookers, and should intimidate him, and course him to not hit you, (hopefully)
