My comp gets infected with spyware too I use Aol spyware protection it has updates all of the time and some of the effects spyware can have to your computer is it can slow your computer down quite a bit and can log things u type like addresses and Internet passwords remember spyware does not have to be online to send information from your computer it can log that type of stuff to be sent when you go online 
but what i do every time i'm about to go online i scan for spyware makes it easier to use I also do it every time i get offline for a while but u should try aol spyware protection Here Remember to scan at least three times a week
