I started when I was 9 years old, among other things. However, I studied on my own, though mostly picking up words on subbed anime shows that I had downloaded, or by looking up words on the internet. Everything else came by a process of figuring how to combine the words in the correct way. And remember, though I speak two languages, it does not mean that I can speak them perfectly. All things have their imperfections, somewhere.
