Don't make then JPEGs or BMPs! BMPs take so friggin long to load, and JPEGs ruin the quality of pixel art.
Make them GIFs.

I'll have some pics ready soon.

EDIT:

c--- this guy was done in paint.

c--- this was done in a program just like paint. There's pretty much no difference.
My avatar was done in a program like paint, too.

I have much, much more ... but I don't feel like posting them right now.
