That does not matter Karma. The fact of the matter is, he has returned. That's the only important thing here. It's important to always welcome people when they've come back to you, especially when they're important to you. If they're a friend of yours, or if you really care for them, then you will be happy to see them, and sad to let them go -- no matter how many times that happens. That's why it is a big deal; at least to me. I despise everyone who would try to think it foolish, and I condone thoughts like the ones I've just quoted.
In fact, someday, you will come back to a place you haven't been to in a long time, and you will not be greeted warmly. Then you will understand why it is important to always greet the ones you care about.
