the romans literally killed him, but most of the people in jerusualm wanted to crucify jesus so they took him to a bunch of different roman leaders so they could sentence him.
they took him to a leader named pilate, but pilate told them he wouldnt let them crucify him because he never did anything wrong. instead he offered the jewish people a choice.
around that time of year in jeruaulam there was a tradition to let one prisoner free from jail.
so pilate gave the people of jerusualm the choice of freeing jesus or barabus (a mass murderur).
the people chose to free barabus, and the demanded to crucify jesus.
thats what happened
