Good thing you said you might have answers.. cause the third dimension in the rectangular co ordinate system is the z axis.. and if a function is termed z, with the variables x and y, then the tangent to that function is always will be parrallel to the z plane.. no matter what value of x you take :biggrin: ... I know... I pwn.

The electric field in a shell that happens to be a conductor is 0 .. because all the charges in a conductor migrate to the surface of the conductor. If the electric field point is inside the shell, the Guassian surface will be a circle with radius p.. having all the charges at the surface would mean that the enclosed amount of charge would be zero.. thus the Electric field is 0. :biggrin:
