Continuation of Rune-Rant...
Ok... aside from all of the skills being useless, there's a couple of other reasons why I hate them.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/online/game/12981.html
Take a look at the level ups.. and compare them to how much experience you gain per thing. If you do some math, you can get one skill, say mining, and get up to making 17K of experience... which would be great if you're starting out, but when you get up around level 80 (almost enough to mine runite), it starts to mean nothing, and it becomes a sad reflection of real-life minimum wage jobs
Take it from games like Wild Arms and Final Fantasy... when you need a LOT more experience to gain levels, you need monsters/skill builders that are a LOT tougher and yet give a LOT in return. Once your probability gets high enough in any skill... it becomes a waste of time to fight tougher monsters or fish for harder to catch fish or cook more difficult stuff... you can try it and gain maybe a tenth the experience in ten minutes. Utterly pathetic.
And then there's the little fact that they're recycled skills. Every one the same... mine a stronger ore = lower probability of getting it = gain experience a lot slower, fish a harder fish = lower probability of getting it = gain experience a lot slower, cook a harder dish = lower probability of cooking it = gain experience a lot slower... etc.
And let us not forget the Quests... the beyond sad quests. Making balls of string for some farmer dude? gathering food supplies for some chef dude? in fact... almost all of the quests involve running off and finding some common/stupid items to give to someone else so that they'll give you some other item to combine with a few other items to give you a map. Why does this feel like I'm still in the tutorial?... and why does it remind me of Shen Mue? (reading signs for grandma, feeding kittens for children, catching balls for kids, buying a drink for some dude, fighting school girls because they're a "bad influence" on you friends daughter.. etc.).
Anyways... there's a lot of other stuff I'd love to rant on for days/weeks about Runescape, but I'll just lightly mention a few at this point.
-Not being able to fight other players, except in 1 part where you can fight EVERYONE and EVERYONE can fight you, which is particularly annoying since if you don't have some "buddies," you can get ganged up on easily no matter what rank, and if you're low ranked, well... you're screwed everywhere. And it would make so much more sense if you could only fight people your levels closer to "safty" and as you get farther from civilization.. or whatever, you could start fighting levels further below and above your own rank.
-Retarded economy, making n00bies able to get a quick fortune mining coal for god-knows how many hours. Coals should be stackable!!! This would eliminate that little problem and the ridiculous amounts of trips made to and back from the bank on a daily basis by smithers/miners. But better yet, coal shouldn't even be a factor... just another way the creators are trying to force you to play a lot longer with little/no return. If you do the math, by the time you're ready to mine/smelt runite.. well, you don't have to do math, you just have to have the common sense to see that 100 exp (or maybe it's more? even it it were 200, wouldn't matter) per bar, when you can make a total of about 5 bars per trip to smelting (1 runite, 8 coals... so no.. less :biggrin

, and the fact that you need over 1mil exp, or 1,000,000 exp from 3 bars a smelting trip (300 exp. once you use them), takes way too long.
-Great idea in limiting carrying capacity in BOTH your character AND the bank with no way to change it!! You can't even pick up those "sacks" you see laying around everywhere... which would help TONS for those ofus who still havn't figured out how to stack silver and coal... and a hundred and one quest items just for a piece of a map and a boat trip.
And... that's all the time I have for this kids...
In effect: Runescape, a fine free game, since, it's free, and you can always leave if you h8te it, no one obligates you to play. However, bad pay game.. I don't know why anyone would want to pay for it unless they would rather be clicking on random items than answering phone calls.. or doing, whatever it is, that you're supposed to be doing at work/school
