[quoteost_uid0="SSJKarma"]the only way microsoft could have infected you without even asking you if ya wanted to download the virus, was by passing thru WINDOWS UPDATE !

i have WINDOWS XP right now, i never got any virus, and i am BROWSING A LOT TJ5 !

for thsoe who don't know it.
a virus is a program that must be EXECUTED.
BROWSING does not execute programs.
so you can't get a virus just by being on a website.
HTML does not contain EXECUTABLE COMMANDS
CGI does, but even tho it is executing, it is executing ont he LOCASL machine that is sending you the information. which mean that even if you execute a CGI program, its the server your own which will get the virus, not you !

basically, in any situation...
you gotta DOWNLOAD the VIRUS, then EXECUTING it in order to get the virus.
WORMS aren't exceptionnal to that law.

that's why EMAILS with virus that you get, if deleted right away, without executing the program to open the file. makes your computer not infected.

its like this.
i put a virus in a VIAL. i send it to you in AMERICA, and i'm in JAPAN.
you receive the VIAL but doesn't open it.
why would get infected if you never openned and never got in contact with the virus ?

same law for computer, you got to DOWNLOAD and EXECUTE the virus for him to spread !
so basically, if you got infected that's because you received a file and then you openned it !

and for those who say we download everyweb pages that's why we have what we cALL CACHE in BROWESERs. then let me only tell you that those fiels are only INFO files. they aren'T the program itself, but the necessary to know what exactly is the web page you're looking at !

so no, you can't catch a virus just by browsing a web page. a window will popup to you before that and ask you if you want that file which is necessary for you to see the page. if you accept that file, then you got a possibility to get a virus, otherwise. you're free of it and will never get it !
Can you explain me this quote for me?[/quote]
sure... it basically says that if you do not EXECUTE (run) the prgram, you do not and will not get infected.

its like openning the cage of a big bad monster. if you receive the monster and do not open the cage, no harm will be done. same goes for viruses. don't open things you don't know and nothing will happen to you !

It is possible, however, to get an infection by simply visiting a Web site.
Found it here
ok, there is a difference between CATCHING a virus and FINDING a VIRUS !
that girl FOUND a VIRUS !
doesn't mean she was infected !
ok, the virus was in a file on the web site. the web site like all others is maintained in cache, while in chache, nothing can get executed unless yuou go open it yourself by double clicking the file.

but, since th efile is on the computer, still your comp is not infected, the ANTI-VIRUS software PREDICT the virus INFECTION if you open that file, so it alerts you that you got a virus ! yeah, you got a virus, but you aren't infected by it yet ! as long as you don't open it by double clicking it !

understand now ?
