Still with the "better back in the day" talk?? Do you really not understand ping/lag well enough to know that people teleporting after .5 sec. is better then waiting 5 sec. for them to move.

Ping is down, lag is down, plain and simple. No more corner raping your opponent for about a minute at a time before backing off and letting them "teleport" to the other side with little or no damage taken.

No, lag is not completely gone (nor is it likely to ever be). But it's "getting" better in its own gradual process. It's a rare thing these days to see ping above 1000, and almost never reaches above 100 when you're hosting. This kind of thing was unheard of "back in the day".
