ok... thanks for the rest of the info, i can now tell you that your sound card is completely non existent !
CODEC doesn't equal sound card !
so if the only thing you see in the DEVICE MANAGER is your CODEC FOR the sound card, then you're clearly missing your sound card drivers !
to have a WDM AUDIO codec, that means you have an actual ON-BOARD SOUND CARD, which is easy to find if you know your motherboards name and revision !
ok here what i suggest... (hoping you know a little on how to reinstall drivers)
1 - go onto the motherboard manufacturer web site
2 - goto their drivers section and download your latest motherboards drivers.
3 - reinstall them completely.
you can also try to look for the CD that came with your computer, it should have the basic sound drivers on it !
if that doesn't help you, then there is nothing i can do more to help you on this. i would need to try something myself which i cant since i don't have your computer in front of me. also, if the problem is that big, then goto a local computer store that can repair it for you ! they should be able fix it right away !
GOOD LUCK resident !
EDIT:
digital fighter: how could DOWNLOADING THE DIVX CODEC help him out to have his sound card running again ?
DIVX = MOVIE PLAYERS !
that's really not his problems.
