In SFIII: 3rd Strike and in CvSNK2, rather than having the old scoring method based on hits, combos, and bonuses of that nature, those two games use Groove points. Groove points are earned by performance. The best way to describe how to gain/lose points is:
Gain Use a variety of attacks Connect with your attacks Complete combos Perfect bonus Lose Use very few different attacks Your attacks are blocked You are hit by the opponent You idle The scores are also very low compared to other arcade games. If you do well in a single round, you may have up to 135.000 or 150.000 points. Those are decimal places, not commas. What if the high scores were determined by the sum of all the Groove points a person gets over all of his/her battles. This may be hard to do, but at least people can't say that no-talent losers get to be in the top 5. |
Screw the ppoints. Just make it the grade system.

That'd require more work from TMyApp. There's a better chance of getting the Groove point system passed, seeing as he doesn't need to make the program analyze how well you did in the fights.

Groove points sound like a great idea! Of course, you'd need to put in other factors too, like how much life you have at the end of a match, and such. I'd think of more, but some are theoratically impossible, like taking points from people who spam, etc.

Life bonuses are given to the player at the end of each round (both a vitality remainder and perfect, if need be).

bad idea, until lag is next to nothing. and...150.000 per round is horrible, with sagat, or orochi iori i get like 300, or 200.00 a round...like, 2000.000 after the boss battle...
|
THIS is a bad idea, considering some newbies dont know their buttons u can get lots of points off them...
|
So? You can also get a lot of points by beating newbies, and people do that anyway! With the Groove system, players would actually be required to use a variety of attacks, so if you insist on backing someone up into the corner and constantly using Berserker Barrage or Lightning Kick on them, you would do rather poorly. And since I think corner rape is a lousy tactic to begin with, I wouldn't be against that.
