Im not sure how many people already use this, but when you go to projectx.cyberfuturism.com, and you click "start", try using the "download" button. Maybe people think its hard, or complicated, but its really easy and saves time.
As for taking up space on your hard drive, this isnt an issue. The download takes up about 10.5 mB, which is pretty much what you end up downloading to your TEMP folder whenever you press the "mirror 1" button. Youre not losing any disk space if you delete the mirror 1 files after downloading the game--I'll get into that further on. It takes about 5-10 minutes to get the game downloaded, but once it is, you can start up Xmen Vs Streetfighter Online straight from your desktop, with a load time of about 5 seconds (no matter what your connection) and it saves TMyApp money. This is especially good if you only plan on chatting. To do the download: first, create a folder on your computer for the purpose of holding all of the game files. I recommend something in My Documents, as it is easy to access. Call it whatever you want. now you need to download these files to the folder you created in the first step: xvssf07b.exe cWolverine.cct cChunLi.cct cCyclops.cct cHSentinel.cct cOnslaught.cct cRyu.cct cSpiderman.cct cMusic.cct cSounds.cct cBack2.cct Like I said, download ALL of them to that folder you created above. To play the game, just go into the folder where you put all of the files and double click xvssf07a.exe The game window will open, but the load time will be pretty much gone. You can, if you wish, create a shortcut to xvssf07a.exe on your desktop. Again, this download replaces the load times, and so youre really not losing any disk space--if you click on mirror 1, you just download temporary files of about the same size. When a new version is released, you just go to the download page (http://www3.sympatico.ca/tony.tomas/download02.jpg) and there should be about 3 new files at the top--they will help you upgrade. One of the files will say something like "version 0.6 to 0.7a upgrade" or something. When you download that, you have to run it once to complete the upgrade. The other new files are just downloaded in the same way as the ones above. If you ever need to get to the download page, either click here:http://www3.sympatico.ca/tony.tomas/download02.jpg, or go to projectx.cyberfuturism.com and click start, then click download. VIPER: do you notice how ... won't finish that ... this will not help tmyapp from having to spend money nor will it reduce it !
why ? because even if you got the game on your end, you still CONNECT TO THE SERVERS to be able to play against the whole community, which means he will have the same amount of money to spend even if people use the DL version ! also, the people that are downloading ARE DOWNLOADING FROM THE SERVERS ! which means he'll have to spend money to keep that server up too ! so... conclusion... your idea doesn't help him save cash, it doesn't help him, but it sure is better for the player as the FPS problems are solved ! |
well, it doesn't change anything !
why, because even in the browser window, once the game is loaded, it is not downloading again until an update came in ! by definition that says DOWNLOADABLE VERSION and IN-BROWSER are the very same as it is DOWNLOADING on both ways ! your theorie is good only if the peoples are downloading the cache everytimes. which is only 1/10 of peoples which do that ! understand my point ? conclusion: your chache isn't downloading all the time, only when an update occured, which means the BROWSER does the very same as the DOWNLOADABLE VERSION ! |
so, you understood wrong !
because ... ** BROWSER CLASS 101 ** the browser is using a cache. cache = part of your hard drive where specific data are kept everytime you go on a web page, the browser just put tha page into cache (harddrive) where he can find it for the next time you'll come back. that include everything, from the SHOCKWAVE games to AVI movies passing by simple HTML and COMPLEXE JAVA programming. once you come back on that page. the browser do a check to see if the page in the cache is exactly the same. if it is, then it is loaded from the cache, not from the web site. now, there is an option in IE that says this... - RELOAD CACHE ONLY ON UPDATE - ALWAYS RELOAD CACHE if the second one is checked, then your thing is true. but if you check the first one, then it will never download the game again, except if an update has been made. now, we already talked with tmyapp about this and he confirmed what i am saying ! so your 8mb is down the drain only if the person checked the second option ! you understand ? |
check your cache; how many files are there in there that begin "mpa---.***"? currently, after i just cleared my cache, i have 4 mpa***.exe files, and about 10 mpa***.txt files. These are files downloaded from Projectx.cyberfuturism.com
Over the next 2 weeks, those numbers will go up dramatically each time i hit mirror 1. I've checked. And i just rechecked IE for windows ME and windows XP (IE 6.01.....), and i do not see that setting, nor have i ever seen it. In any case, right or wrong, you cannot deny that using the downloadable version will help to some degree with the bandwidth. For instance--you're halfway done loading the game (after the game has just been updated), and IE crashes. Thats 4 megs down the drain--IE will redownload its cache files when you go back. And sometimes people need to clear their cache to fix a problem; this would eliminate the need, as well as the need to redownload the cache. Lets start deleting our previous posts; i feel that my advice, whether TOTALLY correct or not, is valid. Just leave your 2 most recent posts |
I don't know if this has been said but...
I have the downloadable version and I am using it. The only problem is that the window for the game can not get bigger. It is so tiny and it is hard to read in the chat room. Does anyone have a solution? |
also a tip that nosoul4evr gave to me to make it load almost instantly is to change your browser settings to load it straight from your temporary internet files, to do this just go to tools/internet options then go to general/settings and click on never at the top of the page, this loads it pretty much straight away
|
mig: that's the option i was referring to !
if you check that NEVER option, then it is taked on your cache (hardrive) unless there is an update... viper: like 2000 said... some people cannot play it . they have to play using the IN-BROWSER version ! why, because the downloadable is too damn unstable comapred to the other one. at least in about 1/2 of the cases ! so i think forcing people to use the DL version is not a very good way, as it will surely reduce the many player who are forced to use the IN-BROWSER version because the DL one crash evertimes ! now, if tmyapp considered that IN-WEB to expensive, he would have already deleted it ! so it must not be demanding too much ! i still think the DL version and the IN-WEB are the very same ! they DOWNLOAD in both case. and if setted right, they will both be playing from the HARDDRIVE which means they are equal ! and if you think CLICKING on MIRROR 1 is giving him a hard time, then just think that the WEB SITE isn't on the same server as the game which means it'is only while playing that the game is taking bandwith ! |
