I've been playing video games since I was 5 years old, and I've went through many systems in my time. All of the new systems that are out right now are very nice, but some the best games that I've ever played were on systems that are currently dead. That's what this thread is about. :D Tell us about your favorite older games, what system they were on, and why you liked them so much (if you feel like it). And I don't want to see any Gamecube, $-box, or PS2 games in ur list, dammit! :p
Here are my personal favorite. Atari: Ms. Pacman Defender II Hero Gyruss Beamrider Frogger NES: Super Mario Bros. 3 The Legend of Zelda Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link Megaman 2 Ninja Gaiden Faxanadu Metal Gear Castlevania 3 Castlevania 2 Golgo 13 Contra Life Force Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Bionic Commando Double Dragon II Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! Dr. Mario The Adventures of Bayou Billy Adventures of Lolo Blastermaster Deadly Towers Shadow Gate Excitebike Gunsmoke Silent Service Iron Tank Jackal Milon's Secret Castle RC Pro-Am Strider Snake Rattle 'N Roll SNES: Castlevania 4 Zelda 3 Super Metroid F-Zero Pilot Wings Final Fantasy II (one of the best RPG's of all time, I think) Final Fantasy 3 Street Fighter 2 (played it for hours at a time :D ) Actraiser Battletoads Battlemaniacs Super Offroad Legend of the Mystical Ninja Castlevania X Contra 3 Donkey Kong Country Gradius III Lost Vikings Killer Instinct (cheesy compared to the arcade, but still cool) Megaman X NBA Jam Prince of Persia Populous Super R-Type Soulblazer Rock & Roll Racing Star Fox Super Star Wars Super Punch Out Super Tennis Ys 3 Mortal Kombat 3 U.N. Squadron Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Streets of Rage 2 Castlevania Bloodlines Ghouls 'N Ghosts Golden Axe 2 I never was much of a Sega fan, so that's why this list is short. Turbo Graphics 16 Most of you probably never even heard of this system. It came out in the mid-80s when NES was going strong. It was a cool little system; the games were actually little cards the size of a football card, and the contollers had turbo controls built right into them. Ultimately, it died because it couldn't compete with Nintendo. But there were a few games that were decent for it. Salamander Dungeon Explorers (a lot like "Gauntlet," multi-player rocked) Keith Courage Bloody Wolf Castlevania X: The Rondo of Blood (we got a watered-down version of this for SNES, not nearly as good as the original) Gradius Bonk's Adventure Legendary Axe Ninja Spirit R-Type Playstation: Battle Arena Toshinden Parasite Eve ESPN Extreme Games King's Field King's Field 2 Final Fantasy VII Blood Omen: The Legacy of Kain Total Eclipse Turbo (almost impossible to beat) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (the best Castlevania game ever made, I think) Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (awesome sound track, awesome play controls, excellent replay value, and the 2-player games were kick-ass) Twisted Metal Resident Evil 3 (my favorite out of the series) N64: Goldeneye Super Mario 64 The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time (I was sure that 3-D would kill this series, but I was dead wrong on that one; I was quite impressed with this game) The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Killer Instinct Gold (not as good as the first one, but still worth playing) F-Zero X Mario Kart 64 N64 was cool because it re-introduced analog controls to the gaming scene. Kind of ironic when you think about it, considering that Nintendo killed the joystick with their "D-Pad." I really like the N64 controller, in fact, it's probably my favorite next to the PS2 (although I don't like the PS2 D-Pad for some reason; it seems less responsive, and that little gap in the middle messes me up when I'm playing fighting games). N64 had some decent games, but by the time it came out, I was already sold on Playstation. The N64 is probably the last Nintendo game system I'll ever own. Well...that's about it for me. You can feel free to list your favorite arcade games along with your favorite console games (so long as it's an older game; in other words I don't want to see Tekken 4 in your list :p ) |
