Hadokenman 03-12-2004 08:05 AM

a good ryu tatic up close is to do the Hardpunch when crouching. It will send the opponent up, then jump and follow up with a hard kick and Hadouken :)

SBYRD5 03-12-2004 09:47 AM

Judging from his name......he's a friend of projectiles.....He'll love it here.... :(

alamgir 03-12-2004 10:19 AM

Wow like who doesn't know that.

Angel-Eyes 03-12-2004 02:34 PM

i didnt know that.............im kidding, but im sure theres sombody out there that doesnt

nosoul4evr 03-12-2004 03:03 PM

well you guys could share some of your own tactics instead of being so cynical. This section does include strategy topics ???
...even seemingly random and sparse ones at that.

Angel-Eyes 03-12-2004 03:06 PM

well whenever i use ryu i try to duck 70% of the time and do a bunch of medium punches while down and then do the high punch while still ducking and while the guy is in the air i do the jumping high upper cut and a fast hadoken to hit him once he lands. :buttrock:

RyusRevenge 03-12-2004 03:36 PM

it is very hard to hit someone wid the uppercut super wid ryu bcz of the lag, so what i propose is build up your gauge level to 2, super jump behind the opponent and to a spin kick super, this should drag your oponent close to u and follow it up wid the uppercut super, ive tried it out a couple of times b4, it seems to work. btw u can follow up the super instantly after the spin kik so there is no way of them getting away, unless they stopped your spin kik wid a fireabll and u were not aware of it bcz of the lag.

i dont know the names of the supers so excuse my pronounciations  .

Blashyrkh 03-17-2004 03:20 AM

I love Ryu and his magic series links. So cool...

These don't involve any MS attacks, but I've been playing around with a few combos. Jump forward + Fierce Punch, into a Dash then Jab Punch, then a crouching Fierce Punch into either a Shinkuu Hadouken or a Super Combo Hurricane Kick. It's pretty fun to muck around with these kind of combos - I recommend figuring out some for yourself!

Edited By Blashyrkh on Mar. 17 2004 at 06:22

Hadokenman 03-17-2004 07:53 AM

Blashyrkh i would take out the dash in your combo cause it leaves you vulnerable, but nice anyway^_^ ryusrevenge good to :D another one is when your opponent is in a corner send out a helper like hulk and do Shin Shouryken while they are in the air, seems to connect alot with me :)

Hollis 03-17-2004 09:45 AM

i know this is not a combo, but when i play with ryu i jump around doing feirce kicks (20% of them time), because when this game lags the ryu will just teleport in the opponent's face, and just kick him/her. that's one of my ryu tactics. ( most of you ppl might now that already though ).

Blashyrkh 03-17-2004 11:29 PM

Indeed, that's not a half bad tactic for those high-latency kind of games. When I play online I often find myselfusing Hurricane Kick into a Shoryuken alot of the time. I don't like using Hadouken much though because it's too easy to dodge and leaves you in a state of vulnerability for a split second which can be difficult to get out of. I mean, it's no different to any other attacks' delay time, but you can easily be super combod or receive a heavy kick in the air - possibly even a combo for those more technical, not so average players.

Hadokenman 03-18-2004 07:36 AM

yes, Hurricane kicking into Shoryukens are good, but i use the weak hurrican kick since the strong one will leave you too far away from the opponent, and i agree with the vulnerability of hadokens......easy super for opponent who know.

~Gunblader~ 03-20-2004 05:14 PM

nice tip!

ryu is cool and i can beat every one with him mostly not all

Blashyrkh 03-21-2004 10:18 PM

It's not how many times you win, it's how you win.

You can only point and laugh at those people who only use Hadouken, win or lose.

Hadokenman 03-22-2004 06:17 PM

Right, again Hadoukens leave you vulnerable, and I only use them for following up attacks. Repetitive hadoukens are useless once your opponent catches on. Actually, with ryu you can create some nice combos if you experiment a little^_^

Blashyrkh 03-22-2004 06:34 PM

Hold down duck then short kick, then whilst standing, jab then heavy punch. It's not powerful, but it's fun. The jab then heavy punch reminds me of Balrog and his everlasting attacks with his fists.

Does anyone prefer Akuma over Ryu? If so, why?

drdeath3317 03-22-2004 07:02 PM

another good tactic i've found is Hurricane kick then haduken, if they block the hurricane kick do dragon punch because most likely they'll let their guard down then super haduken, and if you were at lvl 3 before super haduken you can do a cross attack QCF and HP+HK

Blashyrkh 03-22-2004 11:11 PM

When you block it won't let go until the opponent stops making attacks. If you use hurricane kick then hadouken, chances are you'll link the two attacks because of the magic series, which would result in them blocking both attacks. Unless you connect it, obviously.

drdeath3317 03-23-2004 07:30 AM

yea..but most of the time your opponent is anxious to get an attack off that most likely they'll go for one as ur last kick of hurricane kick hits and if youget your haduken off at least u get to do a bit of damage. :D

Hadokenman 03-23-2004 07:40 AM

Blashyrkh, you're right, but i do agree with the tactic. following up is good cause most ppl will let their gaurd down, even if they are able to keep blocking. Following up with a Shinkuu Hadoken could result in 3 things after shoryuken....1: the opponent will not block and get hit, but sometimes opponents seem to float up after supers..2: the opponent will block, and send out a helper to stop it...3: could land attacking that will also result in countering the super. ;)

pip99 03-24-2004 07:32 AM

I use ryu a lot infact probaly who i use the most......

Hadokenman 03-24-2004 07:42 AM

Same here pip99 :D Ryu has a little something for every character. He has a projectile, can be quite fast, and mixed regular attacks and supers make him a good choice. I'd use ryu MOST of the time, since for me he is an all-around character. The other characters are either a mostly ground, air, or projectile fighter.

drdeath3317 03-24-2004 08:11 AM

yea..but i can't wait until we get Ken *Crosses fingers hoping Ken is next*but Ryu is close enough i use Ryu mainly too for those reasons.

Hadokenman 03-24-2004 08:15 AM

hmm..ken....*thinks* that'll be nice

hes the best fighter all round on the game for a lagger.

devilsoul 03-24-2004 10:23 AM

no no not ken....we have enough damn shotoken chars for now..

Yup Guile or Bison or some1 like that.

Hadokenman 03-24-2004 07:01 PM

Yea, we need a different character all together. I think Gambit would be nice. lol Lets try to keep the tactics going^_^

drdeath3317 03-24-2004 07:26 PM

er.. i like to try and cross attack when i tag out.. unless im near death.. then i just use a super that way when my partner comes in he comes in to a recovering opponent

Hadokenman 03-24-2004 09:26 PM

hmmm....that is nice. Nice one Dr :D

Pfft, no.

Spider man was the last character added, was he not? It's only logical that we incorporate a different SF character now. Not as if these opinions would matter much right now though.

Hadokenman 03-25-2004 07:42 AM

Yes, yes, he was...Anyway, new Tactic:

A Ryu-vs-Sentinel fight is to me the easiest fight for Ryu. Sentinel is so tall that upclose Ryu is can almost imobilize him.^_^ I most of the time jump at Sentinel using hardkicks and once i get up close i use a combination of kicks and punches. Triping Sentinel is good because you can continue the barrage by jumping after him. Most Sentinel players tend to play "Keep Away" by using Rocket Punch and Sentinel Beams. Also, a nice super combo is to do the Hurricane Kick super followed by the Shin Shoryuken super...unless it lags.

Theres no way in hell your ryu could beat my sent and others just no chance in hell and i ant cheap.

sent owns ryu

Hadokenman 03-26-2004 07:35 AM

lol pip99...*sighs* maybe i'll just go to "hell" and prove my tactic right.just kidding...the tactic I posted does help me, and seems to work in MOST cases. But yes, sometimes a really good sentinel fighter comes along. You could be one of them, but i'll never know until i fight you.^_^ Playing the right way, i guess you could say sentinel "owns" ryu, but that can backfire :angryfire:

Now PiP, i know im also new around here. And trust me, if you say your a good "Sent" player then i belive you, having not played you myself i have nothing to go by.
But one of the great things about the online community is that, there is allways allways some one better then you. As im sure any martial arts teacher will tell you, "never underestimate your opponent" . Dont just argue with HadokenMan, any five year old can do that. Set a time and a place and fight him, All you can do is learn from the battle. That goes for everyone, learning from each other is the only way you can become a true master at anything, Thats why we have this thread. You never know, Hadokenman may have something up his sleave. You just dont know untill you go to find out.

And now my Ryu tactics so im not pointlessy whoring.

I usually get up close and use a barrage of light to medium punches..Then while the opponent is recovering I put in a hard kick or occasionally a super-move. I know the light punches dont do much damage, but the fraction of damage they do deal , may be all i need to turn the fight in my favour.

Blashyrkh 03-26-2004 11:36 PM

Nicely spoken, Misfit :p

I find most players using Sentinel with what is called a CHEAP strategy which entails hovering to the opposite side of the screen then blasting away with that heavy punch/laser beam. It can be frustrating, but with good timing I simply super jump across to their side then unleash my foot into his robotic face! Then I do a bit of random button pressing, that usually does the trick.

Misfit 03-27-2004 03:58 AM

Haha, Good old button mashing. Cheap? yes, remember the days when you would be launching well timed attacks.Saving your supers for crucial moments in the battle..Only to look over at your friend franticly mashing any button on the game pad ..and winning!

Its pretty much the same thing here..But we have the cover of anominity. So when questioned about our "monster mashing" we can simply put it down to tactics.. :)
