There could be a membership thing--the game would still be free, but you could get additional perks (a la NoSoul4Evr) by paying a membership fee.

Some ideas for the perks:

Pre-release Priveleges--TMyApp could delay releasing new versions for one month; during that time, only paying members would have access to the new version. They would also serve as "beta-testers", telling TMyApp of any bugs found

Chat Status--They would have [full member] next to their names in the chat room

Board Status--They would have [VIP member], or something, next to their names in the forums room (see NoSoul4Evr for example). Possibly there could be a group for them--i believe groups designate priveleges

Exclusive Board on this forum, similar to the system used at gamefaqs.com (there are boards available only to those w/ sufficient rank)

Newsletter--sent to paying members, giving them secrets, info, and some fan site stuff made specifically for paying members. (Obviously, the fan site owners would have to contribute to this thing) Ie, projectz comix for paying members only. Also, they would have inside info on special events (ie, Night of the Sentinals)

And after it brings in enough money....
EXCLUSIVE SERVER!!!--With this, full, paying members could finally go to a chat where there are NO FLOODERS (who would pay for full membership, only to be banned?), NO ANNOYING "Players", and possibly the greatest feature of all, there could be a setting which only lets users with under 900ms ping in. (Admins--just make timeout setting to 900ms)

Along with this server...
EXCLUSIVE TOURNAMENTS!!!--Only for dedicated members of XMvsSF (ie, those who pay :biggrin:)

and finally, if possible,
Helper Priveleges (dont know if this can be done, but...) you could pick your helper from the options screen; thus, no more annoying combos which dont work all the time.


I would suggest a fee of $30 for 6 months ($5 per month) based on the fact that a sysop remarked that $50 per month would be a major help, so 10 users would be all that was needed.


Any thoughts? Most of the ideas at the top would be easy to implement, especially with that kind of money rolling in. 100 users=$500 per month=awesome game

Finally, to the Sysops: why not have a token banner ad on this site? it brings in money--gamefaqs.com has been doing this for years, and is still working fine.

So...how many people would sign up for this? Anybody like/dislike it? Sysops?

Well, I must say, those are some nice ideas there, but its the paying thats a problem for me and other young, dedicated members who want to pay, but can't. I won't even bother asking my mother. She already doesn't like the internet, and was hesitant on getting it on our computer. I only wish that there was someway to pay you in manual labor. Unless you can think of a way to do this, I,(and maybe many others) screwed up with this VIP stuff.

Well this whole game budget problem is just ticking me off. Now tmy can you tell me how much money we're talking about here. $50 to $100 if it's that much I think some of our older users can pitch in but if it costs more then we have a problem. Most i can help you with is maybe $50 but i need some info from you in a email telling me how to get it to you. So when you do need it just email me. Also lets just not post stuff like this and get the gamers down. Otherwise the only things that will be in their heads will be "how much longer the game will stay up". Hmmm...I have been thinking about this a little and I may have an idea that might interest Tmy. Since it seems like there are ppl who would like to donate some money- but are unable to because they don't have a credit card or other means to make a payment- does anybody think that it would be a good idea to have Tmy or another mod to get a post office box and post the address on the forum. Then ppl would be able to send in money orders, since anybody can get a money order- and not have to worry about having a credit card or making a payment over the net. Hey, it's just a thought....I dunno if anybody will think it's a good one or not. :)

Anywho, I think $15 is good, but I dunno, and to one person, if you don't pay you can still play and everything, just not get certain perks ya know? But there could be different "levels" of such, depending on how much someone paid, or how often, and they get lvls and can go up in lvls, so someone who gives some cash will have a reason to keep giving (besides the fact that he loves the game) and he goes up in lvl and gets more perks...eh?

I like/agree with the idea of a one time membership fee. $ 10 - 15 sounds pretty reasonable.

You could pay an little extra something on a monthly basis to receive some extra features or something (almost all of the ones mentioned perviously are all good), maybe somethin like that would be good.

That way, if you WANT, you can get'm, but if not, you can always just play normally by only paying the sign up fee.

What the F**k????? So Tmyapp you can make less lag in the game by doing some coding????? If that's true then dubya tee eff????? If you could just add some more code or change some code then why wasnt this done a year ago? Having less lag in the game would bring so many people back that would probably contribute to the game. Maybe it was trying to find time between implimenting the various characters we have now... or perhaps it could have been he was working on making tag mode work... or perhaps it was programing in the AI dudes in practice mode... or perhaps he was trying to "fix" all the misc. bugs that keep poping up in a continuous process...

Or perhaps.. just perhaps... TMyApp HAS BEEN doing that, and will continue to make efforts to reduce the lag in the game (in between doing EVERYTHING ELSE that is).

If you could even fathom just how much time/effort it takes to code/keep a game like this running, while finding time to work a full time job, use money out of his own wallet to pay for this free game, "administrate" a forum full of ignorant posts (like the one above), answer and/or delete thousands of the emails that he gets, AND keep finding extra "projects" to help keep the game interesting, then you'd know that he has/is and always has been fighting a continuous struggle to decrease lag (yes, he's been doing that too).

fear_tetsuo: One good idea is to stop all of the profanity. You may have your opinions about the Mods, but it isn't always necessary to tell the rest of the forum. Talk it out with him instead of cussing him out.

To be on topic: If you haven't done this, you can tell us exactly what costs so much. Kepping up the servers, the site (Project X), and that expensive program you use can't be all thats causing budget problems for the game. We can work better and come up with more ideas if we knew what to eliminate that wasn't so essential.

Gotenks13: what costs so much ?? well... let me try and break it down (again)...

at the heart of the problem is web-space for the 8 meg shockwave file (ie: the main game file)... the game gets about 35,000 hits per week... @ 8 megs each... that adds up (to about) 900+ gigs of transfer PER month...

now you may say "so what... get one of them $5 hosting plans i heard so much about.. u know... the ones with unlimited bandwidth !!" ... guess what... "unlimited bandwidth" truns into "your account is termiated for over-usage" when it comes to 900+ gigs per month...

that is (and always has been) our #1 problem...

now lets look at the back-end of the game... u have leftyfb and myself @ the heart of it all... lefty who needs to be able to handle 35,000 hits weekly for the HTML web site... plus, whatever hits the forum gets (which is quite a bit as well... even though so few of the users post)... all this drains lefty's internet connection (not to mention server/cpu resources.. but lets not even get into that)... his internet bill (which is MUCH higher than mine) ... u guessed it... has to be paid from his own pocket...

then you have me... same problem... u need to have server(s) for authentication, top scores, and whatever else is needed for security and to let everyone login/access the database/"check/create/edit their scores", etc...

.. bandwidth for that + server/upgrades/maintenance cost... (u guessed it again) ... straight otta my own empty pocket...

... for the record... the crappy/cheap machines that i'm forced to use (i dont' have cash for a shiny-new Dell server+) die every few months and need to be replaced with new junk... $40 for a power supply here, $300 for a new mother board there... every few months its something new... and every few months, all of that adds up... (i won't even bother puttin in number for lefty'z equipment, they are much higher... but unlike myself, his are not use 100% for the game)...

and then... last but not least... u have the chat servers... we have 2 now (the 2nd server... "projectx server" is the backup chat server that i host and only bring up when everyone else is down) ... each person that decides to run one has to have SOME sorta' server to host it on (all 24/7)... and, they have to give up about 300-600 megs of transfer PER DAY... (which is quite a bit if you think about it)

ALL of this is 110% essential... and i do mean ALL... nothing is wasted... and the corners have been cut so much, there is noffin left to make the game even close to "pointy"... :biggrin:

so.. there u have it... :biggrin:

That is what i was referring too. I took it as you saying that you can code the game and make it less laggy for a bunch of ppl who put money towards the game. So i wondered " well why couldnt he code the game and make it less laggy for everyone, boy it would sure bring back alot of people since that lag is the main reason why most of the people left, and it would probably bring more money for the site." thats what i ment. Hey, I think that Capcom should help you out...they did create the actual game. They should assist you in some way. This whole thing can be considered an advertisement for them. You need pay...from them...

I just read your response to my "low lag" idea. TmyApp cannot ad coding to make less lag. What he can do is make it so that only people with fast connections can get into a certain server. That would, however, make it so that some people would not be able to get in. If you had read the other posts, like my first post, then you would know that. Next time, instead of bitching, read other posts. Your question will probably be answered.

also, Maybe we could send a care package to TmyApp...fill it with enough various herbal, caffine filled beverages to keep him wired until the game is complete :biggrin:.
