Since there are, and always have been, many "new persons" who seem to annoy the living crap out of everyone with pointless posts, I have decided to bring my other, similar topic into this one, so new persons (the "news" from here on in) can learn about tricks, etiquette, grammar, and general proper posting techniques. This is not a flame, nor an invitation to flame FOR ANYONE

Also, if TarkanX is reading this, please, feel free to add comments of your own. You always do such a nice job, especially with the grammar parts.

<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>Please do not post in here unless you are adding a lesson </span>

DanYankees 12-08-2002 12:41 PM

I know my verbs, nouns, pro-nouns, and other aspects of the art of literature. I will lend a helping hand here and there, although sometimes I'm not too fond of "newcomers"...

TarkanX 12-08-2002 12:51 PM

We need that TarkanX's school for dumb asses revived...

But yeah, usually ####ies will post wherever they want, but that's calming down since, but the spamming of topics aren't.

####ies usually post things when they have already been discussed, but that's okay since your new, it's happened to many before.

hmmm.... I think I know why theres topics that have 100+ posts. It's the current members that post, for example, it only takes one person to go off topic, and one wrong post to start a flame. Most of the can be found in the general, and random insanity, the 100+ posts topics.

Lesson 1:
The IMPORTANT STUFF

Xmen vs Streetfighter, Online (patent pending ) is a great place, and its forum is just as good. The purpose of this forum is for the enjoyment of all, and you pay nothing for it.

The Big Guys that you need to know:
<span style='font-size:13pt;line-height:100%'>TMyApp</span><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>: the head honcho in the game. He thought of it, created it, funded it from his own pocket, and is all around a pretty good guy . </span>His real name is unknown, and few people know what "TMyApp" means, though there is much speculation. This project of his is now in its second year, and though hard times have hit, and will no doubt hit again, he intends to complete this project come hell or high water. Show him some respect, and cut him some slack. I do believe he has forgotten what sleep is, where his bedroom is, and what the hell you do with food. This guy works harder than anyone I know, and for less--he gets no personal gain out of this, save for satisfaction.

<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>LeftyFB</span><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>: the head of this here forum, and like TMyApp, he funds it from his own pocket. This forum has been around for about as long as the game, and will stay around as long as the game is alive. </span> Other than that, little is known of him. Show him some respect, for he too works day and night keeping this forum going.

<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>LordCyris</span><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>: is a moderator, meaning he can make your life hell if you tick him off. His interests include banning, booting, and otherwise attacking those who do not pay proper respect to TMyApp or himself.</span> It is rumored that a monthly offering of incense, gold, and a sacrificial lamb can keep him from destroying you . Don't tick him off; he is more than happy to make you hate life.

<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>2000warrior</span><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>: another moderator, he is the newest member of this elite rank.</span> He too enjoys laying the smackdown on foo's who dont rec'anize his authority. But he is also pretty level-headed, and is always willing to explain what you did to deserve his wrath .

<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>Warmor</span><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>: a moderator, Warmor is also busy making (?) some comix about this game, codenamed "ProjectZ". </span>Though it has been a while since we have heard anything about the comix, he has reminded us repeatedly how lucky we are to be graced by his company . Seriously, though, he is a great guy, and when his comix get done, they will no doubt be kickass.

<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>Quass</span> and <span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>Zing79</span><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>: these two guys are rarely seen around here anymore, since they have made another forum for this game (senshukentaikai) and are responsible for keeping it going. Senshukentaikai was started in December of last year, and has been VERY popular.</span> Over the past year, they went through some difficulties, but they're still up and running, and all out of their own pockets. Great job, you guys. Keep it up.

DanYankees 12-08-2002 12:57 PM

very good...now I guess you can go on to explain the people who have contributed to the game/other well-known vets

viper2040 12-08-2002 01:07 PM

the breakdown of what all of these titles mean
<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>VIPs</span><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>: these are the people who have donated money to the project. These donations can currently only be made through PayPal. </span>Their priveleges include: a special sound when they enter a chat, an exclusive newsletter, green (ewwww:biggrin:) characters, secret helpers and charatcers, the right to try out characters before theyre released to the public, the title of VIP, and respect (yay!!! ). However, please dont ever confuse mods with vips, and NEVER think that we deserve the respect that the admins deserve.

<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>Mods</span><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>: these are the people who have contributed significantly to the effort. This includes, upholding the law, gaining the respect and trust of TMyApp, donating massive amounts of time to the project, and NEVER ASKING FOR A REWARD. </span> They are higher up on the respect-o-meter than VIPs, and can ban people, kick them from the chat server, lock topics, delete topics, delete accounts, summon hordes of locusts to plague you...etc .

<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>Admins</span><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>: these are the people who created this project--TMyApp, and LeftyFB. You cannot gain this status in this community unless you create your own forum--then, you would be the Admin of your forum (ie, Zing79 and Quass. They are mods here, and Admins in Senshukentaikai.) </span> They have all of the powers of mods, plus the ability to delete the game/forum, modify the game/forum, add mods, eliminate mods, etc. Trust me--you want them as friends, not enemies.

viper2040 12-08-2002 01:12 PM

<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>Now, on to actually posting:</span>

Before you post, think about the following:

A)Is it necessary for you to post? When u say "TMyApp plz read", is it important enough to take HIS time?

B)Has your topic been done before? Is it likely it has been done before? Will people be interested in it?

C)Will it annoy people? Will people think, "Oh, not ANOTHER ____ topic..."? Will it start a flame war?

Come on, people. Just chill. We were all new to the forum at one point (except for TarkanX ), and we all probably annoyed a few people. But lets keep it to a minimum. There are many times when i get the impulse to post post post, because im SO happy, or SO mad, but i just stop and think about the above.

TMyApp and LeftyFB have a lot to deal with, and dont need more stuff.

This is a lesson for the new people, and the people who just act retarded.

viper2040 12-08-2002 02:11 PM

<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>Lesson 2:
Making that post</span>

If you're making a topic, then click this button
http://bbs.projectx.cyberfuturism.co...ages/t_new.gif in the main page of the section you're in. (Clicking the button here will start a new topic in the "General Comments and Strategies" section--where you are now).

Fill out the following for your new topic:

Topic Title (For my topic, it was "The "new persons" guide to posting;")
Topic Description (for my topic, "Since most come straight to "general"...")

below that, there is a box for your message. This is what will appear when you click the "Add Reply" button.

To check out your post as it will appear BEFORE actually posting it, hit the "Preview Post" button.

<span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>Now, what do those funny buttons mean above the message box?</span>

the B makes text BOLD
the I makes text Italicized
the U makes text Underlined

Dont worry about the others for now; theyre advanced.

Now, first of all, when you first click one of the 3 I talked about, some funny code will appear in your message box, at the very end of your current text. IE, if you hit the b, [ b] will appear. Everything after that "[ b]" will be in bold. Also, the "B" button will now say "*B". To stop the bold, click the "*B" button; the code [/ b] will appear.

In posts, almost everything inside of brackets (these:[]) is code. if the code has a "/" in front of it, it signals the end of code. Using the Bold example, [ b]starts the bold, [/ b] ends the bold. NOTE: [B ] WILL NOT APPEAR IN YOUR MESSAGE WHEN IT IS POSTED; I'M JUST GIVING EXAMPLES.

You can aso type the code in yourself, which is easier. In all of my examples, Iadded a space into the code so that it would appear in my posted message. Do not do that. For bold, this ends the bold: . This begins bold: .

IMPORTANT: for each code start (ie, [ b]) there must be an end (ie, [/ b]). If you do not end the code, then the code will not go through. This is how i was able to make the actual code appear in the previous paragraph--I put the end code before the begin code, so neither was carried out.

viper2040 12-08-2002 02:24 PM

Damn, Scorponok, Why did you have to ruin my lessons with that link . Oh well, the code was acting REALLY wierd, so its for the best.

DanYankees 12-08-2002 02:36 PM

thank you viper2040_ and TarkanX! you're my heroes!

(that is the response they want in return for all of the valuable lessons they are teaching you)

viper2040 12-09-2002 11:05 PM

BUMP!!!

Kayura 12-09-2002 11:11 PM

well its not my fault i like to start a argue up here and there, and thx for the tips viper.

bloodpack 12-09-2002 11:24 PM

well said viper ;)

this should've been done before

i could've avoided 2000warrior's sermon

but now i know better (sorta)

viper2040 12-10-2002 01:27 PM

Lesson WHATEVER THE HELL WE'RE UP TO :
The EDIT

Double posting is bad, unless you HAVE to--ie, the bump. But thats an advanced technique

Here are reasons to double post. Do not double post unless it falls under one of these reasons

A)Your post is so long that it has to be split into 2. (this REALLY shouldnt apply to anyone new. Your post has to be a Friggin essay to fall under this category)

B)You need to Bump (2 bumps in a row from one person, max. After that, its obvious that noone is interested in your topic, and it should die)

C)Your two posts talk about different things, and are NOT merely adding to the previous post.

SO, that being said, You will probably need to EDIT your posts VERY often. Instead of making a new post that says "oops, forgot to mention", you should hit that cool looking button that says "edit". That way, the topic doesnt get cluttered with half posts, and 1 liners.
the edit button is located at the top of your post, to the right of where the time and date of your post is located:

http://bbs.projectx.cyberfuturism.co...cons/icon0.gifPosted: Dec. 10 2002,16:27. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . http://bbs.projectx.cyberfuturism.co...es/pb_edit.gif http://bbs.projectx.cyberfuturism.co...s/pb_quote.gif
._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._ ._._._._._._._._._._._._._._.
|Your post here...........................................,.. ....................................,..l |TextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextT extTextTextTextText|
|TextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextT extTextTextTextText|
|TextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextTextT extTextTextTextText|

DO NOT TRY TO BUMP WITH THE EDIT BUTTON; IT DONT WORK!!

Also, note how I double and triple posted with my lessons. This is basically the same as Adding a space between paragraphs, BUT SHOULD ONLY BE USED WHEN THE TWO CONSECUTIVE POSTS ARE VERY DIFFERENT.
Here is how an edit looks:

Notice how you cannot even tell that I have edited my post. Out of courtesty to others, try putting [EDIT] at the top of your edit.

[EDIT]
Like that.

Oh, and become accustomed with the "edit button. I had to edit this post MANY times so i could get that table above correct. Tables are EXTREMEMLY frustrating on this forum (though i suppose i could have used the preview button, its really cool too)

DONT ASSUME THAT, BECAUSE THE POST LOOKS FINE BEFORE YOU POST IT IT WILL LOOK FINE AFTER YOU POST IT. MY TABLE WAS EXTREMELY UGLY LOOKING UNTIL I ACTUALLY POSTED IT.

bloodpack 12-10-2002 09:40 PM

...or how bout ur quoting two different things/member?

u need to separate them on two different replies ;)

viper2040 12-10-2002 11:00 PM

thanx for the input, Kayura and bloodpack, but please read the first post:
Please do not post here unless you're adding a lesson or link. I appreciate the support, but cannot afford to have my topic flooded with people thanking me or debating with me. Im not being mean, but I know that if this continues, my topic will be completely ruined as many others have been in the past.

Thank you, though. You can always message me if you need to...

NOTE: BLOODPACK: your last post in here was fine. Im talking about the other one.
