noobs becoming VIPS? Viper2040_is not pleased. Not pleased at all.
Back in Autumn of 2002 (I believe), Nosoul4Evr and I both had the same thought, simultaneously (though we didnt realize it). Why not help TMyApp pay for his expenses by donating a fewbucks? After all, he was providing one of the best free games out there, and has never used any ads or banners to generate revenue. So, both of us, along with some others, donated (though nosoul beat me to it by a few days :( ). By December, TMyApp started giving us a few extra privileges. We soon earned the title of VIP, and by January we had our first real perk: a dev release of an upcoming game release. Unfortunately, one of the VIPs leaked the version, and shamed the VIP community. Around the same time, someone decided to do a friend a favor and pay for his VIP membership. Thus was born the first sponsored VIP. Since that first betrayal, and that first sponsorship, I personally feel that the VIP community has lost its way, and fallen from grace. VIP membership was originally a way to REWARD those who truely cared about SFO. TMyApp eventually made up a FAQ to help people wanting to donate, and essentially said that even $5 worth of caring was enough to get a membership. But as usual, people have managed to twist an otherwise great feature around to their own advantage. The VIP community is now filled with more members than ever, and a great deal of them are sponsored. Incidentally, a great deal of chat problems that I have seen also come from VIPs. What has happened? Where did these "caring" members go? I mean, if they truely care about the community, why are they in the chats cussing and being disrespectful? Sponsored VIPs, in particular, have always been a sore spot with me. I have always felt that you cannot do the caring for someone else. If they care, they will find a way to donate. If they dont care, and just want perks, then to hell with em. Sponsoring people is just a way of helping some noob abuse VIP Akuma, or Dark Ryu, or Dark Sakura (see Rant #1). Dont get me wrong, there are certain times where I'm alright with sponsorship. For instance, an OCCASIONAL tournament with a VIP reward sits semi-well with me. But I could create an account now, and act like a complete ass in the chatroom, and STILL find a way to be sponsored within 2 months. Thats ridiculous. All of you guys need to grow up, and slow down on the sponsoring bit. Its not supposed to be some way to get special powers and gloat about it to other members. Its SUPPOSED to be a way of rewarding those who actually give a damn about the game. As a little side note, I personally have only sponsored 6 or so members, and most of em have ended up moderators. Thats the kind of dedication people should look for when sponsoring, instead of just sponsoring as many people as possible. Finally, asking ME to sponsor you, or asking ME HOW to sponsor, is a way of enraging me and earning my wrath. DO NOT BRING UP THE TOPIC WITH ME. Any sponsored VIPs who dont fit into the category of noob, I am obviously not referring to you in the above. But there are so few of you, Im not too worried about offending anyone. I see it this way. IF YOU ASK ME, IT'S A GUARANTEED NO. These days, there are WAY more people asking every single VIP to be sponsored. Regardless if they know that sponsored VIPs can sponsor or not. They solely don't care. That is why i DON'T sponsor. Only a FEW people in this game i have sponsored. Why? b/c i KNOW that they were playing this game, out of dedication to learn, have fun, and not for the perks. That's why i sponsored the few i have. They EARNED it.
Also, there has been a BIG rush of Sponsored VIPs using other accounts thinking they can get more sponsors. I will say this to those people (this only aplis to the sponsored VIPs who are doing this selfish behaviour) "RATHER THAN BEING A SPOILED LITTLE PUNK FIND YOUR OWN WAY OF DONATING, RATHER THAN PISSING OFF THE VIP MEMBERS WHO TRIED TO FIND THEIR OWN WAY OD DOING SO". Many people told me they would sponsor. I asked FEW people to sponsor me since burner47 (the guy who told me about SFO) told me NOT to ask for sponsorship, since people (which turned out to be ALOT) will say they will, but don't do it *cough* beast^dragon*cough* and won't. This was especially at the time when i was playign more, and had a good rank. VIPs said if i beat them, they will sponsor. Just proved to me they never planned on doing it, just wanted rank. Again, just goes to show how selfish people are. So ya, quit asking for sponsorship! :angry: (no biggrins in this post. Nothing to smile about). |
Ok what about other vips who donate them self? You saying they don't do the same thing they do but in other account?
Is it there fault maked this new feature? In sfo there is no way you can abuse one thing but cheating. Its called a "stragy" they might use, you might call it cheap buts its not to them. I am a vip and i got sponsored but i won a tournament to get my perks so i guess i earned mines. You can't judge some one by what they have but by the way they act. Some sponsored vip earn it, some people give some one the money to sponsored them. Anyways i feel some of your opionions are right. |
Dark_Palladin_X, my respect for you continues to rise. People need to stop being so spoiled and understand what VIP means. Sponsorship, in my opinion, should be used as a way of granting a reward to someone who has given something to the community. That is the ONLY time, other than an occasional tournament, that I would approve.
A little note, Im being MUCH more agressive on people asking to be sponsored. You MAY and probably WILL be ejected from chat if you ask. |
Sadly a lot of people forget what being a VIP means. They want the perks and thats about all they want. Helping TMyApp and the community in general doesn't come into any of it, they'd rather help themselves.
I would have donated money for this game if I had a credit card, but I haven't got one yet. But i'll definetly donate something sooner or later. |

for as long as i rmeember... viper, you're th eone who started the whole sponsored vip thing !
after all, you sponsored me, tarkanX, roll, sbyrd5 and a few others ! so basically you're bragging about a system you started ! but i agree, people nowadays seems to think sponsored vip is a way to avoid giving away cash... they tend to forget that others must pay for them and that many of us don't have the cash for it ! i say... to begin with, sponsored vips shouldn't have hapenned at all ! took me time... actually 3 years just to get that 5$ cash for tmyapp... but i did... but never should have you sponsored me it he first place ! |
ssjkarma, you will notice that most of the people i sponsored were well worth it--they ended up becoming mods. Now a days, most sponsored vips would NEVER become mods, and most are complete newbs with no respect for the game.

Instead of having everyone be the same and equal, you have people feeling like they are some what better than others. This is no longer an equal community. Everything is separated and segregated and all because of something so small. I got kicked three times from three different games because I was a VIP

come on... if you got sponsored or got the vip status, then you deserved it cause you helped tmyapp with some usefull money ! and BTW, who told you this place was a EVERYONE IS EQUAL type of community ? the one who told you that didn't knew what he was talking about ! this is more of a dictatorship where we the mods and admins says something you gotta do it ! there is no equality here... you donate you get gifts, as simple as this... its pretty darn like the real life, you give you get ! |
u know my cousin masta_shake is a vip and they know me as his cousin. so they think that since hes my cousin they can ask me to sponser them. it gets very annoying. it all starts with one guy, then the next guy says somethin like "what ur sponserin? can u sponser me too?" and then the next guy catches on to it and pretty soon the whole room asks to be sponsered. first of all, whats so good about being vip? it was all fun back then when everyone jus played for fun when there was no rage factor and no one askin to be sponsered. now when i get some rage and use it some people get mad and say go ahead u had to use rage. like winda said u have them thinking they are more better and its all becoming seperated. i get kicked from games for not being vip, then all the time i see this. when i join a game i see theres three people. im on the vips team then the hoster switches his partner with mines all cause he was vip. what the flip is up with that? i know we have to help tmy out but this is jus riddiculous

-------------------------------------------- A lot of people who play the game are 13, 14 or 15 years old. They are still children and may not have a possible way of sending the money in. To get someone to sponsor is not easy, so if they achieve it, good for them. Anyway, haven't you people heard of the saying "sharing is caring"? If you share the joy of perks with other, you care. i donated when i was 15, and i sponsered a friend becuase it was his idea to donate the money, my mom let me donate to get a vip account, and then my friend gave me $5 to donate through me, we really really give a damn about the perks because this was right after the dawn of rage, then i sponsere another friend the exact same way...

All vip status should only be bestowed to those who have been here for more than 2 yrs.. plain and simple.. They must've been active throughout the allotted time period.. Man its so simple..

Well,I think I earned my sponcer ship by helping the sfo community for like 2 years doing different things.. like
Helping Nosoul out in Xforce Helping the new people and answering there questions Helping out some mods with small errands and such Making people banners Helping people make banners O_o Help out the host of some Tournaments for they can be succesful And such... O_o |
sponsored vip like old michael jackson ^joking alright deserveres it because they show there dedicaton and hardwork through sfo and helping it but others such as can you sponsor me oh my lord if i got $5 for each person that asked me that i would be rich look at my pm box i barely check it nowbecause all i get is can you sponsor me and it's my birthday tommoorow please and oh i'll do anything i hate beggers you know sponsoring people aint showing nothing except if they earned it :angry: i usually smile but no sir i wont smile fine :biggrin:
