i may have a dozen questions, just to let u know...

its been 2 months since i used my dsl modem and now i trying to activate it. i keep gettin error message 678: the was no answer. so far i been runnin through the connection settings and still nothing, and for the past month i used AOL, is it causing the problems or is it sumthing else? i could use sum help here.

Well, dsl and dial up are pretty slow and old so you might want to get a new computer soon.

What you should do is call your service provider being your provider with dsl. They should help you. Also what I dont understand if you had dsl why did you switch to aol? Anyhow whoever was paying for the dsl line probably stop paying the bill resulting in termination of your dsl line. So whoever paid for aol now needs to cancle the aol membership and pay the bill for the dsl line.

His computer is not broken, Idiot. It's just his modem is not working...

You should do what Zpower said...call the toll free number also make sure you installed ur modem properly and everything is plugged in and that the phone line itself is working.

LOL TOLLFREE NUMBER. They have been calling my house for the past week or 2 but my refuses to answer them unless they leave a messages.

Let me think this straight !

- You got your DSL modem up and running.
- you configured your internet connection for it to be used.
- You tryed to connect thru it to the internet.
- it answered, "There was no answer"

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS:
- the ISP changed their numbers which means the number you dialed is wrong making the modem not getting any answer from the number you called.
- You dialed the wrong number and no one answered !

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:
- Check out the number you dialed and make sure it was the right number to call for it to connect !
- Contact your INTERNET DEALER and verify the number witht hem !

if any more problems comes up, they are the one better suited to answer your call, form you told us, the only possible solution in both cases is to check the number you are dialing to see if it is correct !

Hope ya get it fixed, DSL is still better then a normal phone line !

PS:
HELLOTHERE: you are a complete moron, DSL is one of the most used internet connection even by today's CABLE connections which are still too damn high price wise and yet DSL is the most used alternative !

Buying a new computer is never an option, or is used as very very very very last resort ! so yeah, you are the moron !

I got verizon online dsl with msn8 and I don't got problems with it. Well that last time I got that blaster worm thingy Ive been having problems setting up my dsl modem but now I don't experince any problems with it my computer works well since its 1 year old. I mean trust me sooner or later your computer will start to lose its memory and crash often I mean I had an old computer but I sold it and I got a dell computer dell is the best computer since it has pentium4 processor. Yea I think you should buy a new computer if I were you I get a labtop.

december 1-6: i discovered dsl service stopped.
january 5: i started AOL services to stay online and stop going to the library, hoping the 2 months are free...

its now february and i gotta cancel this AOL. i keep gettin knocked offline and yelled at for tying up the line. my mom got dsl to use the phone while i on and now she sayin the bill is 300+. once i get a job i gonna investigate this. thx karma, i contact the IPS once i can get the bill payed off cause it would still authenicate but not surf, now it wont authenicate.

to u pple saying get a new PC: I NOT RICH!!!!!!!!!!

its not like gettin a loaf of bread. my mom got a busted up car and needs the cylinder head gasket replaced. do u know what can happen when it goes bad? and think about the cost and the LABOR. i dont got the time nor the money to buy a new PC. i need a ####ycycle cause mine got stolen sunday oct 12 2003 4pm, 4 days after my b-day, at the library and we still payin off bills, not to mention the 950 rent increase in march while her paycheck is 900 every other week. so dont tell me to replace my entire PC, its windows XP.

for those who do not know... i still have an old TANDY 1000 up and running and believe me, a computer do not lose anything !

if its memory becomes broken, then it has a reason to have broken, same goes for everything in a computer !
i get computers and they works fine for more then 6 years in a row !

believe me, computers do not crash too often unless you made them do things they weren't allowed to make. as in playing games too big for your computer, or things like that !

all happens for a reason or another, nothing happens on its own !
and PENTIUM 4 are perhaps more stable, but they cost a lot more then AMD and gives you a lot less POWERS !

example...

AMD 2500+ is actually running at 2200mhz
INTEL 2500 is running at 2500mhz !

why has AMD called them 2500+ because they are doing an actualy compare to the intel CPUs !

as in... the 2500+ may be running at 2200mhz, but is , in speed, comparable to the 2500mhz of intel !

so basically...
INTEL = More stable, but high cost, less powers !
AMD = Less stable, More powers, Cheaper !

COMPARISION TIME:
Complete computers without screens, keyboard and mouse !
AMD 2500+, 512Ram, 64 GF4 4200Titanium = 800$
INTEL 2500, 512ram, 64 GF4 4200 Titanium = 1000$

and that is something real !
there is a big difference between INTEL and AMD and that's why INTEL isn't a good choice now a day !

for those who say no intel is cheap, well the CELERON have only 128kb CACHE inside of them, which is real bad for games !
Sure they cost 100$ less, but that sure as hell is not made for games !

so someone who wants a WORKING computer for WORKS can get an INTEL, they are better. but for games forget INTEL, get AMD instead and not DURON or things like those, get the BARTON series !

Dude who cares about who makes different processors I mean theres more processors then pentium4 pentium 4 is the best right now since it has better technology and runs even faster. Yea you could say some intel processors suck but not pentium4. AMD Is all right but it doesn't have the same speed as intel.

Ah I knew the problem was billing issues. Yah you should of gave that infomation in your first post Mr.Big. Would of saved me alot of trouble actually trying to think why in the heck you switched to aol when you had a up and running broadband dsl line. Anyhow 300+ dollars a month for dsl? That cant be right it wouldnt even be 120+ dollars for the highest use. Having a high end website and paying for the host and bandwith doesnt even cost 300+ dollars a month. i just told you, it was prooved, AMD processors are way faster then INTEL processors !

you could buy the whole new 3 ghz processors for 500$ dollars while having an AMD 3000+ which is actually only 2.5 ghz and have the whole same speed ! and it would only cost you 250$ ! so which is better ?

the 3 ghz or the 3000+ ?

You like INTEL then go for it, but you'll have is STABILITY, nothing more then that !
they cost a lot more, and they are generating even more heat which makes you needing even more then the stupid fan they give with their processors !
but like i said, if you like INTEL then go for them, but i must say, INTEL were cool back 3 years ago, they had a great deal with PIIIs, but ever since they came out with P4s, they got shot down by AMD, cause all their PIIIs were faster then all P4s. the recent ones from INTEL, like the 3ghz, are great tho, but its too late. AMD is already eating INTEL up !

Okay whatever Karma if thats what you think about processor then fine I know alot of computers then you do okay so if I were you I keep studying about computers and its processor and its compartment. cuz I study everyday thats all am gonna say to you aight Karma.
