The Best Rpgs I've played are...

FireEmblem: GBA

The game had a excellent storyline. Excellent sound and graphics. So many damn characters. (character-wise) Offered a wide variety of character skills and fighting status. (PEGASUS KNIGHT, WARRIOR, ETC.) The characters were also well drawn as well as the women in the game. The girls were sexah.

ALTHOUGHT THATS NOT THE REASON I PURCHASED IT

The stages were also set up well. A very good game for a guy who likes "tactical" turn based games.

XenoGears: PS

The game had an excellent storyline. It had a unique battle system. It had excellent sound and graphics. Fun stages, characters, and battles. When they put up mechs in the game it made the game even more badass. This is probably one of the best rpgs ever made for ps that I know of.

Final Fantasy 7: PS

A classic rpg which was game of the year a few times. This game had everything plus a bag of chips. It had excellent characters, mediocre graphics, good sounds, badass bosses and summons. Hell the characters even cursed, it gave the game more realism. The battle system was also intense. (Materia, etc.) Can say too much about this, all I know is that it rocked.

Front Mission 3: PS

This game was cool for me. Excellent sounds and graphics for its time. It had awesome sounds and battle scenes. Mechs fighting to the death; whats cooler than that? Although this game was hard as flip it was clearly worth the money. It was almost guaranteed that you'll still be playing it in a week or 2. You couldn't beat the game even if you tried in less than 100hrs.

wow.. check out the syntex.

It didn't.

Dark_Paladin_X 05-10-2005 03:09 AM

I would have to say... Final Fantasy 9. Why? It was a good challenge. I mean, if the game has 4 discs, then it must be good. :D The only other game that might've been better is...well...i'm no sure what could be better

Shinatsu 05-10-2005 08:22 AM

Final Fantasy X (Haven't played any other versions)

Every time you turn a corner there is a boss waiting for you, very challenging. Since this was the first f I've played I have become an enthused f fan!

Breath of Fire IV
-Nothing to fancy about it, I just thought it was a long and fun game. Sure the game was all text (no voice acting) but the battles and fishing struck a chord for me. Facing Fou-Lou was like a chess game, very classic and very long.

Zelda: Link to the Past-

The best zelda game for snes

This game had some unique puzzle elements such as going in and out of mirrors switching worlds....etc.

The bosses give you a run for your money also (Ganon)

Thats all I can think of

Well...only Zelda game on the SNES.

I can tell you some good RPG's, some you may have never played, and should pick up at any cost.

Illusions of Gaia; SNES
I loved this one. The story, graphics, atmosphere...it just pulled you in. Music plays a HUGE part of RPG's, and even if you don't notice it, you might like the game more because of the music. Awesome adventure that challanges religion in the end.

Super Mario RPG; SNES
Nintendo did it right. Great mini-games, and threw the Mario universe into the RPG realm with ease. You have the charm of our jump happy friend with all the elements that makes a RPG great. Had unique features of it's own as well. A must.

EarthBound; SNES
The most simple graphics ever, but the game is so corkey and funny and fun, you can never forget it. So much to do, so fun, great music, and who could forget walking through the park and fighting a New Age Retro Hippy or challanges the Happy Happy Cultists?

Chrono Cross; PS1
Not as good as original, but still magical. The sheer amount of characters you can get is amazing, and the story is so far out there...you really need to try to keep up. The twist it has is CRAZY and take the game in a whole new direction.

Star Ocean: The 2nd story; PS1
This game is so beautiful it will make you cry. The best part has to be the battle system, but even better then that is the way you can choose who joins or doesn't join your party, and how the characters can actually form relationships with each other. The item creation system is such a masterpiece, I found myself spending my play sessions just trying to make new items, or cooking, so I could par-take in the cooking festival. Genius.

Lunar, all of them; Sega CD
When this came out, it was huge. Then it came out on the PS1, and was huge. For a good reason. The game has eye candy, but then throws the character models at you like little cartoons. The Anime cut scenes was new, and an awesome touch, and still are. They even had voice overs for some parts! The battle system was also clever and fun.

You want to talk RPG's? I'm your guy.

(~thug~) 05-10-2005 03:28 PM

Pokemon (O_O), This game keeps you in it. they have allot of pokemon the graphics are good and there is alot of reply value.

You forgot to mention how uber Dias Flac was.

My personal list is as follows..

Breath Of Fire 3(PS1)
This Game is diamond among alot of underrated games. The story line was good, the fighting system was simple yet challenging enough for hardcore rpers. But most importantly, you could TURN INTO A DRAGON!

Brave Fencer Musashi(PS1)
I cry when i think about how few of people have played this game. Musashi's whit mixed with the games fresh theme made this game worth more than one 10.0s on the magazine ratings.
Also, the sound track was to die for. Im sure me and korr discussed this one briefly before, even he cant denie the charm of this one, no matter how much he may despise the sequel.

Suikoden 3(PS2)
I dont even know where to begin on this one, almost a count less amount of characters to find, with an indept battle system to boot also. The only down side to this game is that the story line was pretty cliche', otherwise this game ranks among the best in my book.

Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time(PS2)
Im still playing this one, its pretty much the most underratedrpg on ps2 right now. Though the story line was a bit slow and drags on quite a bit, the characters have so much charisma and personality that theres no escape to the emotional deveolpment you will make with them. BTW, ALBEL OWNS YOUR SOULS!

I know i can think of more, but im press on time so ill edit this post later.

Okay, I'll agree with you on the graphics and the cut-scene, but for the overall storyline, I'd rather play Final Fantasy 7, or anything else. I was really lost interest when the Garden started moving, because that was pretty cheesy, and when you had to fight that big fat thing that was underneath the Garden, that just didnt make any sense.

I wish I could play more of it. I played a nice demo years ago, but never owned it. I'd like too though. When I heard of the sequal I got excited, but it is so bad....

But by you telling me how great the characters personalities are, I'm thinking about it now...if you're like me when it comes to RPG's and get the same emotional high I get and attachment, and you saw it's worth getting, I might do that.

~Mastermax~ 05-11-2005 03:33 PM

persona
omfg one of the best games ever!
i don't say that for many games. Although the dungeon system is a little unorthadoxed, the real greatness was in the incredible openendedness. there were many endings, several possible charectors, a lot of different personas for each charector (think of them like summons)

the japanese version even had an ending where you never even leave the first dungeon, i had to get an import just for that ending.

Chrono Trigger
how could any of you not have this on your list?
this was the best classic style rpg of all time. i don't even have to explain myself with that one.

Warmor 05-11-2005 04:11 PM

I mentioned Chrono Trigger in my Chrono Cross spill. I mean, everyone leves Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6 and 7 (well just about all fo them), so those were given and I focused on some people might have not played.

What system was Persona for?

~Mastermax~ 05-11-2005 04:36 PM

it was for ps1 so i would recommend it anyone...

another good series that was horribly ignored was the final fantasy legend series for gb, i can't explain why they are good. they just plain are...

and of course if i mention final fantasy legen, i would have to say how great final fantasy adventure was. it has the only reaccuring them that was dropped. it was the first game to feature chocobos evolving. apparentely they evolve into chocobots which can wad through water.

i know warmor has played those because i turned him on to those...

dark cloud 2
utter pwnage yet so overlooked.
it had fully modifiable weapons and many otherr sidequests and such...

Warmor 05-11-2005 05:15 PM

[quote:post_uid0="~Mastermax~"]i know warmor has played those because i turned him on to those...[/quote]
Yes...good times there.

As for Dark Cloud 2, that is a very good one, but I remember the first Dark Cloud...can we say Zelda 64?

montalvo 05-11-2005 05:23 PM

paper mario(n64)
it was gangsta.
havent played the one for gamecube though, but im sure its not far off.

Yeah i get same attachment also.

Id say its pretty good, the game has that "star ocean" feel-even though its in 3d.

I wont say its better than the 2nd story, because the story line as i previously stated, drags on a bit, but that doesnt mean there arent things to be had in it.

I see you liked the cooking system in 2nd story, well thats back along with alchemy, smithing, synthesis and other skills.

I honestly was too lazy to do all of them but it can get pretty indept, you can hire inventors to work for you in your guilds whic is pretty cool.

And about the characters, ive found myself screaming at the screen at some of the decisions they make, but laughing at some of the paths they chose also, im willing to bet sohpia in particular will piss you off if your anything like me.

P.S. The brave fencer musashi on ps1 is pretty hard to find now, but im sure its accessible, i doubt it would be too much if you happen to come across it, youll just have to do a little searching- thats all.

Nah I thought it was cool when galabadia and balamb garden clash, with balamb garden getting invaded and all the seed fighting. Then squall becomes the leader and you go into galabadia and confront the sorceress and seifer. The story was pretty good after that. Yeah f7's storyline is probbaly the best out of all the fs.

Great...yeah...I found all those skills fun. I guess I'm going to have to pick it up, thanks! I have the time now....

And on Musashi..hmmm...it is hard to find, wasn't it going for a lot on eBay? I might have to wait on this one.

Shinatsu 05-13-2005 09:53 AM

Another rpg I forgot to mention

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Talk about a classic...this game is very cool.

Start off...Alucard is just badass, I mean the sword, the accessories, and the spells.
Bosses are to the extreme in this game to from medusa to scyllas all the way to the lord of darkness himself.....Dracula!!

The music: A very good score in my opinion from the collesium to the reverse castle beats!

Warmor- Yeah haven't played any of the rpg's you mentioned a few pages back.....(Although I was pretty interested in the Lunar series)
I've still got Brave fencer Musashi....and I still play it to this day

Thug- Yeah....for some strange reason....those dang pokemon games are addictive!

SSJKarma 05-13-2005 11:16 AM

#5 CASTLEVANIA SYMPHONIE OF THE NIGHT (well its the best castlevania i have ever played. too bad richter had to be the vilain. but i like the fact that you can replay the game old school with richter once you finished the game)

#4 SEIKEN DENSETSU 3 (can'T you ask more, great story, great graphics, live action RPG. can you ask more ? )

#3 GRANDIA 2 (pretty darn good game, good graphics, good story,m good gameplay, good semi-live action fighting scene. too bad the story got off at the end of the last GDR)

#2 SUIKODEN 2 (same as above, added ANIM style graphics and a pretty darn good intro movie. feels like the world is gonna end with luca blight reigning over it then boom the music changes to a stylish "there is hope for the world" type of music and we get to see all 108 stars of the game (that is 108 playable characters) one after the other in a fast paced action scene. can't ask for a better intro makes me feel all messed up when i look at it)

#1 CHRONO TRIGGER (what can i say, up to now no other RPG's ever came close to this, too bad the sequel (CHRONO CROSS) didn't have what the first had. i liked the first one for its semi-live action combats which the sequel didn't have at all. i liked the element actions of the first it was all basic and easy to get used to while chrono cross relyes on your opponents element to actually get the field metters up to all of your colors and that sucked badly. a very good time travelling system that was pretty unique, while the sequel only had a certain time gaps to travel to. not to mention the fact that the story in CHRONO TRIGGER is just purely awesome until the end... well except for the chrono trigger egg that resurrects chrono that was too cheesy. otherwise pretty darn good games and all who played it know how it is good.)

BTW, did any of you wondered why the time in that chrono trigger game was still advancing while the characters would be able to go from one time to the others ? meaning you would see them go back to just before they met frog or any other charcaters they always come back in time after the events they already setted in motions ! have any of you thought the why it is like that ?

anyway here's the answer...
the fact is, the programmers of the game thought that a person cannot live in a place at the same time. thus they wouldn't be able to come back in a time where they already were. of course there is always exception and that one i couldn't understand why. its magus when he came back to the time where he was pretty young. you know, the year 12,000 BC.

i want to ask guys, did you all seen all the 13 endings ?
as weird as it sounds i think the best one is when the world gets destroyed by LAVOS, you know when you die after knowing lavos destroyed the world. you actually get to see the world at that time get destroyed by him and after that you see that phrase with the earth destroyed "BUT THE FUTURE REFUSED TO CHANGE."

i think that's the coolest ending possible...
otherwise i like the one when you defeat lavos right int he beginning of the game, i never seen credits goes so fast before !
was so funny

anyway i'm over with this post now, your turn to speak guys !

~Mastermax~ 05-13-2005 01:39 PM

ya that ending was pretty damn good, another rpg series i saw nobody bothered to mention. ogre battle!
how could you ignore the perfection of stratagy and rpg in one?

also there's megaman battle network 3. the others were ok (except 4 ruined the game by replacing the sytle/class system with the soul system) but mmbn3 was utter perfection i remember intense battles with that game during lunch every day. each day we would get something new and develope a new stratagy with it. i was invincible almost with my grass bug style with a life aura and grass stage chips.

anybody with a gba advance (or maybe something on your computor) should defenitley get it just for fighting your friends...

Warmor 05-13-2005 03:36 PM

I guess this is the best place to ask. If I were to create a RPG page, would anyone like to be staff? I would need people to play and write reviews and get screenshots on several RPG's.

~Mastermax~ 05-13-2005 05:34 PM

i would have no problem doing that (w00t sucking up is teh Uber-|_331 fun)

but anywho, another great rpg to mention would have to be gauntlet legends, it's the multiplayer classic. just the other day we had a full four player with my old charector (wizard of course XD) with their weak ass charectors. believe me, once you play with at least three players you'll be hooked after destroying your first enemy generator. i've never yelled at people for hoarding so much in my life...

Warmor-

The 3 SNES games you listed, Illusion of Gaia, Earthbound, and Mario RPG.. I wouldn't say they sucked, but I wouldn't really say they're the 'best rpg' either..

Illusion of Gaia - Around you get Shadow ( I think that's who it was anyway ) the game becomes extremely boring, so this is usually where I stop playing.. Even once you have the option of using Freedan, it almost becomes too easy once you switch... Overall it's an ok game, if it's your first time through, =/ ( Soul Blazer was probably better than Illusion of Gaia, at least imo )

Earthbound - To be honest, I used to like this game quite a bit. I went to play this not even 2 weeks ago, and couldn't really play for more than a few hours.. After you get the nerd, it's pretty easy, with no real thinking involved.. but then again, I guess it is only a SNES game..

Mario RPG - The battle system was decent for an rpg, since you had to do more than just click and wait like a typical RPG.. but the storyline was just bad.. I personally got quite annoyed with the story, and eventually stopped reading anything that I didn't have to.. Not to mention that the max level was far too low.

The other games you listed I have no real problem with.. Chrono Cross was ok, but I never played it all the way through, so I can't exactly comment on it fully.. Chrono Trigger on the other hand, at least had something to aim for.. Trying to get all ... 7? endings without using New Game+ was always fun..

Star Ocean - Second Story- It had enough to do to keep you occupied, which is about all I look for now a days.

Lunar- I don't think i've played it, at least the name doesn't ring a bell..

Star Ocean - Till the End of Time- It starts out nice, but once you start fighting angels or whatever they were, it becomes far too easy.. You can have an exp bonus, and gain far too much exp per battle.. One plus of this SO though, it has 16:9 support, and Dolby if i'm not mistaken..

Capt Throbberson 05-16-2005 12:42 AM

FF6 - Arguably the best one in the series

FF7 - Not as good as f6 but still extremly great

Chrono Trigger

Super Mario RPG

Deus Ex - Ok, so it was an FPS/RPG, it still kicked ass. It's a shame that they buttraped it and dumbed it down for the sequel.

WoW- Best..MMORPG..EVER.

Im your main man if your going to go through with that page idea.

@SBYRD5: Yes indeed, legend of legia was uber, i still have some of the music stuck in my head a times.

Warmor 05-17-2005 10:28 AM

SBYRD threw in some good ones I have forgoten about! Yeah...Legia...I enjoyed that, but I got stuck in this one town, that was like a tower, and at the top you have to fight some knight...could never get past that part, I should pick it up again! The thing I didn't like, was you would battle all these easy monsters, that gave nill for experience, then the boss battle would be too hard! And it would take forEVER to level up and get strong enough.

SSJKarma 05-17-2005 10:52 AM

one things bothers me so i must corretc the guy...

CHRONO TRIGGER do not have 7 endings !
it has 13 !
but i don't know out of 13 how many can be achieved without new game+ !

any one can comment on those...

SILVER
EVOLUTION 1 & 2
TIME STALKERS
BLUE STINGER
SKIES OF ARCADIA
PHANTASY STAR ONLINE

i'm probably a shame to have mentionned EVOLUTION and TIME STALKERS but heck i wanted to know your opinions on those !

chaoscrippla 05-17-2005 10:53 AM

I think you mean the tower of sol.

I got stuck there too, you had to feed the guard dog statues that bread for them to let you past to get to the genisis tree in the basement.

And that old knight guy(Gaiza i think his name was) was pretty tough, i forgot how i beat him, ill have to unearth my old ps games tonight.

Warmor thanks alot, now i wont feel right until i type a review for that game. :O

@Karma: Evolution? Hmm..mediocore at best but then again when i had my dreamcast that was all i played.

Skies of arcadia and phantasy star online owned, but i never had the money to play PSO online...i wish i could, i heard somewhere that there was a computer version of it..

Skies of Arcana, I've heard good things about that, I was thinking of picking that up for the GCN. You know, now that my fiancee left me, I have plenty of times for these games again!

~Mastermax~ 05-17-2005 03:03 PM

evolution was decent, a bit too little on the story for me though...

SSJKarma 05-17-2005 08:09 PM

i'm surprise no one ever reported on SILVEr yet, its like a very good game !
LIVE ACTION you do your own combo's and it has a good story to it as well !
a bit cheesy at start but still pretty damn good.

anyway i'm sorry to have mentionned evolutioon yeah it was pretty stupid game wise !
i liked the concept though, just like mastermaxz said, the story is childish as hell !
