A 3ft female 'hobbit' discovered on a remote Indonesian island has been identified as a completely new member of the human race...that is mad, maybe a hoax, but i dunno, i think it may be real

Kingryu1 10-28-2004 09:59 AM

Yea, I read about this on http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com , and also heard about it on the news. Interesting stuff.

Ludacris 10-28-2004 11:49 AM

if she really exist, then, there should be other human "hobbits" as well........

Saijin_Ryu 10-28-2004 12:14 PM

Damn, someone beat me to it. but yes, it's true. BILBO BAGGINS LIVES!!! (or used to live, that is)

Anywho, I just read about this on the MSNBC site. It appears that the discovery of homo floresiensis may possibly rewrite everything we thought we knew about human evolution.

For more info, check out MSNBC's article on the subject.

bloodpack 10-28-2004 02:41 PM

well i wouldnt be surprised about this discovery since scientists proved that man evolved from simian-like creatures and mammals basically came from small rodent like species before they evolved to large animals such as whales, elephants, etc...

alamgir 10-28-2004 02:44 PM

I wonder if this so called species of human lives now.

marvel911 10-28-2004 02:46 PM

Yeah cuz this all just makes perfect sense. :sarcasm:

Don't believe WHAT due to not having solid evidence: the mermaid or the "hobbit?"

If you're referring to the "hobbit" fossils, I'm pretty sure that actual fossilized bones are pretty solid evidence.

ppfft, thats nothing.

in africa, there was and STILL IS a group of humans called "pikmies" who are just three foot tall. (all of them, even the old people) the run realy, really fast and needed to get small to addapt to their enviornment for some reason.

point of stry, they're really small, and still live.

(notice resenblance between word pikmies and pikmen, see, nintendo knows whats up)

limbei 10-29-2004 05:51 PM

i believe in this. Anyway we havent discover many things, so we cant say for sure that these things r non-existent

Actually, they're called "pygmies," not "pikmies." And it's not a single isolated tribe, they're rather spread out across not only the continent of africa, but the world (ie: midgets (or whatever the socially proper terminology is)). Colonies of pygmies are not terribly common elsewhere however (although there was once a community of midgets in New Jersey, but that's eluding the point.)

The point is, the people you attempted to correctly refer to are still homo sapiens sapiens, human beings, just with different physical characteristics (just like africans are typically taller and stronger than caucasians, asians typically smaller, etc).

The fossils found of the "hobbit" homo floresiensis are not of a human at all, but of a lesser evolved version of humans, or maybe not even related to humans at all. The MSNBC article suggests that the species may not even be able to be classified as homo-, but as something else....possibly an offshoot of our earliest recorded ancestors.

So, the discovery of a non-human race of "dwarves" is indeed quite a major discovery, and not "nothing" as compared to the physical characteristics of a type of existing human being.

And please, enough with the pink text....you're not Dan Hibiki

Virtual Fighter 10-29-2004 10:27 PM

the correct termonology would be "little people" (but you know midgets is just a whole lot funnier)

a book i read on the subject said thatthey arnt "less evolved", but their area and climate called for them to be not terrebly tall, so 3 or 4 fee would be adiquit.

ad pigmies and midgits are sorta diffeent, because pigmies are small and black, skinny and run fast, whereas "little people" (you have to throw that in once and a while) are usually chubby, and walk slowly.

pigmies look more like children with rinkly skin and facial hair, whereas little people ae really really short chubby adults.

I never said they were "less evolved," just that pygmies are not quite as fascinating as these new floresiensis, due to them being separate species.

It'd be like me finding a dinosaur bone in my backyard and you saying "pfft that's nothing, I've got an iguana living in a terrarium in my basement."

And writing in green will force me to go across the country to wherever you are in LA, track you down, go to your house....

.....then email the address to Wild Dragon and have the cwazy dutch bastage torment you for all eternity. Muahahaha

Actually, the singular form of the word appears as "pygmy."

The "-ie" ending only appears in the plural form, as "pygmies."

Don't they teach you kids anything in schools these days? Young whippersnappers...
