well, the new year is just around the corner, and as some of you know, i want to re-design the website for SFO (we can't just be using old XvsSF crap year after year)

we'll need to have a detailed FAQ, a character moves section, detailed tutorials on "whats a variable move", "how to host games", "how to not be cheap and/or get banned by the mods" ... and, whatever else will help me get LESS anoying emails from n00bs :biggrin:

... and most importantly, we CAN'T have any pictures of marve| characters on the website :biggrin:

so, since i really don't have much time for this (nor do i wish to "think" for myself :biggrin: ) i "think" its time to play the "rippoff game" ... which means, i would like everyone to post links to really good looking/structured sites on the internet which may be used for SFO

ie: dont' post links to microsoft.com ... thats: 1: bad/ugly design and 2: was made to store gigs of information

we need something a lot smaller, yet, unique enough so that the site will "stand out"

... all i'm looking for is "ideas" (i will not be ripping off other people's graphics by taking screenshots of their sites) ... and i figured there are a lot of you with a LOT of free time on your hands, so, this will be perfect :biggin:

.. now.. go.. search.. find.. POST !! .. and then, critique eachothers work right here in this thread (which saves me even more work) :biggrin:

Resident Evil: not bad, i've been wanting to do an "orange and gray" site for a while now... my version of the site u just posted would have been don in pure html/java (no flash) to maximize the compatibility... the front/main page did seem to be a little "all over the place" with lots of "birght and shiny" things... our target users are around 12 years old, and the 1st thing they will think is "oh no, i have to read/think now" ... (one of the main reason the site we have now is so damn simple... u really can't go wrong with having under 5 buttons on screen... they'll click on the right one sooner or later)

... of course if you are 12, dont' get offended by the statement above... the fact that you are reading the forum right now does show that .. well.. u'r not scared of "reading" :biggrin:

Saijin Ryu: too static/corporate-looking ... we need that "gamer site" look (but NOT something along the lines of the Planet Networks ... as i mentioned b4, their designs are targeted for "billion gigs of info/text on one page" ) :biggrin:

TMyApp, I say we just go with the old thing here.. Sure make a few changes like.. the color of the background, the fonts and stuff like that... But I think the old site was original and should do just fine... with the main shot in the middle of the game.. That frame would contain the start, faq and forum link as it always does and the top margin should entail the top scores, screen pics, tournament info (both official.. *cough* .. I wonder why I did that.. :biggrin: and unofficial tournaments.. ) in which someone can do the honors ofupdating as long as tournaments happen. ..then again that's just my 2 cents..
If indeed we do need to go new and hitech.. I would say.. basically change the color of the backgound.. make it like... hmm I don't really know how to put it.. but you know that site I showed you.. which you never knew I knew and I would find and someone else would show you and.. err shut up blanka09 :biggrin: .. but you get my drift TMyApp eh?? :biggrin: Something as user friendly as that would do just right.. without as much eye popping graphics of course..
The ever loving screenshots.. which I'm really about to finalize if you egg nog drinking doodle headed brainacs don't go and give me some more headache lunging shots to work with.. :biggrin:

Well.. that's my take on the whole thing.. It's still my opinion that we just stay simple and true to the style we're used to.. :biggrin:
But if a change is warranted.. then so be it!

yeah i agree, why not keeping this web site already, its simple, to the point and do not ask much to understand.

i like it this way, too much stuff cannot be really good !
something i would add tho, is a NEWS portion on the web site, or a link to the news forum ! i'm kinda annoyed to have to play the game to have the news their ! maybe add a web master or a new admin for the news section part, one that could take all the time to add things, not just info here and there because its clear that you don't have the time to make those info yourself !

other then that, if you add buttons at the top of the web page, like you had with the TOURNAMENT, FAQ and the like before. just add a few things, as long as they are in the upper part of the site, its ok, but the image and button in the center should be a bit bigger so they take more places which will say to others clearly that to play its those buttons they have to push !

as for the colors i would use...
well i always liked the RED on BLACK kind of colors, buts for DARKNESS more then anything else ! so i don't know !
let me think... WHITE on... let's try... DARK BLUE !

we can also go on with colors more like STREET FIGHTERS ONLINE !
kinda like the logo colors !

well, ppl just want something new instead of the old XvsSf faq and web site. TMyApp want something new you know. Everyone want something new for the year 2004.... i said we changed the site.... The web site i gave TMyApp its an example that you can probably take some ideas from it and put stuff together ( almost like a puzzle). take pictures think of new one ideas and etc... will all help you to figure them out. get good GfXand ask em to make em ( if they can). In here we are all like employees lol where your the boss and we work like you...Helping you out.

i like it the way it is ! and i'm not the only one. read again you'll see that there is another one who said he wanted to keep the same website, just change the color and pictures !

the web site must be kept simple.
we cannot hope for people coming here and hoping to play if they are lost right after entering the web site ! in either way, this is not a web site for informationnal purpose, the way you propose him let him think that you want the faq to be found more esily, the forum to be found more easily then the gameplay which is what people come for !

so i say, keep it this way, add more buttons in the top frame, change the colors, add a few pictures and resize the pictures int he middles, so the play button could be even bigger, this way people will see easily what they can and cannot do on this web site. and if they want to play, they won't look for long before clicking on the big PLAY BUTTON !

- lots of eye candy (we don't need all those flashy things or all those images that many web site places for nothing)

well, i'm not too worried about the bandwidth... even if the site was 100 times bigger, it would still take up 100 times less bandwidth than the actual game

This kind of goes along the lines of keeping the site similar to the way it is now...
I didn't know what else to add, since it was basically all covered...
Nice, simple & uncorporatelike... Needs a more noticeable difference in the rollover image though... :alien:
But an SFO banner could be thrown on the top somewhere...
Maybe a frame could be set to the right that shows the top 15 players (Current & connected to the Top Scores)
Another frame could hold the IRC chat...

Just my humble suggestion... I'm open to criticism... :S

i have an idea...how about if we make the colors red and black/blue (akumas colors) and make like however many for each of the chars...or the color changes everytime a new char comes out.....if you dont understand i will edit in more detail...if you want that is.

I know what ya mean...thats a pretty good idea..or maybe we can have a default theme and some alternate themes for it. I was on photoshop did-daddling around and came up with this. I know it aint great and it aint finished but i like it. I may even use it for my site

I have a suggestion to help out the IRC community, put a link to it on the main SFO page, between the forum link, and start game. just a suggestion.

HERE for my SF gifs page, I allow use of the gifs in sigs, banners, etc.(there arent any marve| gifs on here so dont worry about that)

Sweet some of my work is on there:P

on the page we should have:

- forum
- score
- contact
- Download Version
- the game
- Fan button ( you click it, and a menu comes up with nosoul site and kks site).
- screenshots on the game
and atleast a cool background with a cool pic, like evil ryus and akuma.. and a Vip pic showing the vip characters ( SF only).

Example:
button 1: name: Screenshots ( pics on SfO )
button 2: name: Contact ( TMyApp@streetfighteronline.com or info@streetfighteronline.com
button 3: name Top score ( rank system )
button 4: name: the game ( you click that and it will have mirror 1 and the download version.
button 5: name: fan section ( web sites such ass Xforce and kks ).
button 6: name: forum ( SFO forum )
button 7: name: Join The Community ( Become a vip)

and u all can think more lol...

ok i got my computer fixed and am working on a orange gray version of the home page that we have now with all the things that resident evil listed.

This is fear tetsuo. Say i create a home page for the game. Do i get to be a mod or do i get any special perks? Cause i have one that's about 50% done, i just gotta get the links to work. I will post a pic to see if youguys like it and get some feed back about what i could add change.

pretty good, its sorta plain, but its good. its the best we've got so far, actully its the only one so far. :p good job

Well i'm gonna change it around a bit and mabye make a few different backrounds and have u guys pick which ones u like the most. I'll have all the SF characters in the backround like i have now. I'm trying to find the original xmvssf pics for each character but if i cant i'll use the best pic i can. But heres my problem: Tmyapp, do you want the site to actually be working or do you just want everything made(pics, borders,rollovers, etc...) and have you link everything?
