WHAT ABOUT THE LITTLE PPL.

m0u5y 03-23-2004 06:34 PM

and who dl music from the unkowns?

[quote:post_uid0="m0u5y"]ok, so if you change the extension from mp3 to something different then it no longer is a song. then its legal. data is data. if its not a song then its legal to download. how about that? so what if they start downloading .kfk files? is that ok? ah now if the money instead went to charity, and i mean REAL charity, then maybe it would be worth paying. the rich should not get richer. its as simple as that. The defenition of stealing is To take (the property of another) without right or permission but since one buys a song doesnt that mean its theirs? or are they just buying the right to listen to it? if thats so then the price should be lower, because supposedly when one buys something they own it. if the song is the property of say jane doe, then she should have the right to lend it to a friend. shoudl cdrs and mp3 players be illegal as well? I think all we need is someone to buy a licence, similar to that of a radio broadcaster, and allow people to download for free. ah such a charitable soul that would be... ^_^ well as soon as I get my break i think that's what im gonna do, unless my shopping spree significant other decides to go buy a 50000 dollar tee shirt.[/quote]
thats like saying it's not okay to steal money but it is fine to steal items that are exchanged for money, like when you buy a car or game, besides data theft is data theft, doesn;t matter what format its in.

m0u5y 03-23-2004 08:17 PM

no im saying its ok to steal money that has been shreaded. and anyway, mp3's are illegal, not txt files. you cant steel random letters can you?

if data holds any commercial value and you take it without paying for it is illegal. The format of it shouldn't make any difference.

m0u5y 03-24-2004 05:08 PM

yes but a .txt file is not illegal so why should it be wrong? the thing is... were not talking about starving children or charities here... capitalism puts the money in the hands of the ones who already have plenty. if money wasnt important, wouldnt it be better? ok, so what abou those people who dont have enough money to pay for a damn hospital bill that they got because they un-intentionally broke their hip or got pneumonia? until i see the gov pay for medical care, i wont contribute to the getting richer of the rich. the gov shouldnt waste their money on (and there is proof) enough nukes to blow up the earth 6 times if not more. how did i get to this going from music? i dont know...

A .txt file can be illegal, if you have very used visual basic before, you can create a .txt file and type information on it, for example let's say you type in employee personal information, you can then use the .txt file as a database so that it can be used in the visual basic program. In that sense since the information is a bit sensitive the .txt file would be illegal to download. You can do the exact same thing with the program access can't remember what the format for that is though. My point is its not the format that is illegal it is the data it carries that can make downloading it illegal.

Here is a bit of info im not 100% sure about this though maybe karma knows more about. I had a discussion about this with one of my professors and he was telling me about how a .mp3 format wasn't even meant for music compression but, i have not been able to confirm this yet.

As for the government spending money on health care in canada they do. It's free for all citizens, all you do is flash your health card and you get treated. You don't even have to be a canadian citizen my parents aren't and they get that luxury as well.

Think about it like this i do agree that we aren't taking from starving children or charities, but at the same time you can't go up to a rich person and mug them because that is against the law, saying that it is ok to download music because the person is rich is exactly like mugging a rich person.

Don't get me wrong i have downloaded music before, what i find funny is that record companies go about this problem in the wrong way....they keep trying to prevent people from downloading, i read in the paper recently that they have cds that have some weird protection on them. This protection makes it hard for a computer to read the cd, but in the paper it said that car cd players and etc had difficulty playing them. Instead of resisting the technology record comepanies should embrace it and use it a best they can....but they probably won't for a while.

Sorry for the long post..i don;t usually make long ones lol :D

m0u5y 03-24-2004 08:15 PM

lol... so if somehow i accidentally enter the right series of symbols and what not and then convert it to mp3 and for some werido reason it comes out to be brittney spears's oops a did it again i should be arrested? What about robin hood? For any protection device there will always be someone to crack it. What about pplz that cant afford cds n stuff?
ok so dl is wrong, so we have to go back to making mix cd's? what a pain! lol

im not sure if that is even possible, but that would be interesting.

Well see this is why the record labels are really dumb, the one thing they don't seem to understand, is the fact that the reason why the majority of people who download music, download it because they no longer feel that it is worth it to buy a cd, i think when it comes down to it some people want a mixed cd and there are people who still want band albums. If record labels were smart they would do things a bit differently.

m0u5y 03-25-2004 07:38 AM

lol i might just try this symbol thingy... anywho... ill be happy when they come out with the ultimate surround cerebral micro-implant that recieves the song you want, by title n such. ah so its kinda like radio but u control it! so u dont "take" the song u just borrow it for the time listening lol. oh crap, PATENT PENDING!
