Tupac, I've also fought alot of the people considered to be "great" by todays standards. I fought them back before the big lag issue, and I can say, most of them aren't even comparable to vets who were respected back in the day. I'd make a list, but that would be rude to the people who I like, that would be on that list.

VIRUS 11-13-2002 04:54 PM

Ok ok tantum

I dont think you get what were trying to say ..hehehe ok here goes.

We (the ones who joined dec-feb) were not here during those glorious five months (back in the day?!) you like to live in so....how could you possibly keep saying that you guys were the best...look im not arguing with you because that's your opinion and thats fine...but it seems rather ignorant that you honestly think that none of us stood a chance to be as good as any of those guys in that particular version.

I fought almost everyone around here since december '01 except profe$$er(dont know why he would'nt play ??? ) and I have been playing since then along with a whole bunch of other names who still play. Bottom line you ready? ...Where are you guys?? Im still quite the competitor despite the numerous diffrent versions...where are you guys???

You want some names:
KKS
fear (has at least played in the last four months)
nferno (until recently he was always playing)
tark
gothicarchangel
ssx

Those are some real "vets" and some who I consider great players not just on their skill but because they still play notice the names of this and all the other threads in the past it's the best players .

Lordcyris put it best though

No, virus... you're not getting my point... I'm saying, that the people back in the day are the ones I rate, because you could get a better grasp of how skillful they were, because there was alot less lag.

I've heard of some next generation players that are rather skillful, You, and Troy88, to name a couple. And I never said, you couldn't hold up in the old days with less lag. But how could someone say that "Troy88 is the best player ever" if you don't have much to go on anymore? Shouldn't you instead rate fighters you KNOW are great?

DX Zero 11-13-2002 05:53 PM

[quote:post_uid0="Tantum"]P.S. Ask DXZero, He was around during my time, and after, ask him.. who has more skill, Me and TarkanX, or the second generation fighters.[/quote]
the game lacks the need of skillz now..

VIRUS 11-13-2002 07:23 PM

hey i also wanted to mention Dx on that list he is still playing to

It's all good tantum look i dont wanna argue it will go on forever and hopefully this topic is closed very soon. I see your point but you seemed to have been only active during that certain time period....the game has been up for a while now....alot of you guys havent been active in a looooong time...once again my point being...the name of this topic best players of all time

but anywayz its coo' man im sure they Were great players but I wouldnt know. Since late december '01 the time when i started playing this game some of those names....well...I have yet to see them so how can you expect me to consider them as the greatest ever?

Tantum about the whole lag thing...I have gotten over it because I lag as well :laughlong: EVERYONE LAGS! it's give and take and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it so why keep bringin that up?

Tantum 11-13-2002 07:36 PM

nah, I'm just saying it's hard to lock down how much skill someone has, when the lag is so much higher. nothing against the players of today, there very well could be a better player out there now... but it's impossible to prove it now. :(

You all know leftyfb doesn't like these sorts of topics... I really don't care.

So it's moved here, in the Non-XvsSF related section (even though it is related).

Something I'd like to point out to everyone, since no one ever mentions it in these debates.

Back in "the day" there were less people. It's obvious just by comparing a screen of the number of people in the game to the number now, or the hits per day, or the number of active members on the forum, or especially the fact that the game is NEVER empty now. I don't think I've seen an empty 1st server chat since... maybe when tag came out.

...And do you notice how what you type gets lagged when you enter a crowded server? ...and why for some people it is less laggy in other servers? It's because there's less people in those servers, so the server doesn't get lagged as badly.

So... since there were less people back before TOC I, there was less lag (and it was NOT the game's versions). The only feature I can imagine that added lag was tag mode... but that only effects tag mode games.

And even at that... it takes a good deal of "skill" to figure out to deal with lag (for those who ARN'T cheap shots that is). Simply attacking the character head on and pulling off combos won't get you very far.

Another thing, remember how I pointed out there were less people pre-TOC I? Did you ever stop to think that could possibly be a reason to why there was such a selective "group" of great players?

viper, tupac2westsider, super_sonic_x, Onslaught, PROfe$$or, Koopsta, fear_tetsuo... etc.

They all had/have the same "great tallent" or "skill" as that Tantum, TarkanX, Token, Zing79, leftyfb... etc.

The game changes... players change... but each "generation" will all have their greats comparable to the others.

Now what I think really distinguishes (at least most vets) is their win/loss record, and even more importantly... their total wins. TarkanX and Nferno666 are untouched in that category, and perhaps will never be surpased. Does it mean that they're that much better then anyone else? Not really... others have achieved their fighting level, but didn't stick around and fight so fanatically.

There's no real way to compare the greats of old and greats of new... so much of the game is changing all the time. Just try to see their common ground, and that they all were "great", not that someone was better then someone else because of their joining date.

Lordcyris 11-16-2002 08:22 PM

sorry warrior i agreed with u on evryhing but the whole record thing
that rank stuff doesnt mean anything
if iwanted to be #1 on the ranks all i had to do was sit here all day a fight new ppl until i got #1 place
so really the ranks mean nothng more then how much u play
it shows no skill what so ever
thank you

11-16-2002 08:29 PM

Yeah, well just look @ McBeth's scores.

Over 2000 #### killing wins...

But it's the closest we have at this point... until a highscores "might" be added... one day.

VIRUS 11-16-2002 08:38 PM

Ive got to admit im always willing to go at it with 2000warrior...but what he says is something i have been waiting for him to say for a while. I agree with everything but like lordcyris I disagree with the win/loss record.

But im very happy to hear that you feel that way warrior. There will always be a special group that will rise to the top that will be comparable to those of the past.

I personally give alot of respect to those "vets" who still play.
