[quote:post_uid5="blanka09"]This is for all ye physists..
OK I have a question for ya... if ya know the answer post..
if ya don't ... well don't
Ok here it goes..
Two trains on 2 tracks were moving opposite each other at a speed of 60km/h.. yes both at the same speed
Now, at a point in time they were 60km apart from each other...
At this point(I mean the same time when they were 60km from each other), a bird started to fly to and fro from the two trains...
It would fly to the first one and immediately it lands, go to the second one (Don't ask me.. I have no idea why a bird would behave like this )
Assuming it doesn't stop or get tired, how far would the bird have travelled when the two trains cross each other... if measured on a straight line?
You can take this to your Physics teacher..[/quote:post_uid5]
[color=red:post_uid5]The answer... *develops some kinda german accent*
Ok the 2 trains are moving at a speed of 60km/h and they are 60 km apart...
This should tell you (if you go to school.. ) that in 1 hour the first train at the left would complete the 60 km and the other one at the right would do the same !
Which in turn means that the both of them would cover 30km in 30 minutes and then cross each other's path!
It's alright.. you can take a minute to think about it
One travels for 30km at 60km/hr... therefore it would do that in half an hour or 30 minutes and the other does the same..
30km + 30km = 60km... (did I have to tell you that? )
And wallah... they cover the distance between each other and cross each other...

Now our bird would have therefore soared for 30minutes when the 2 trains cross each other.. you know it would go from one spot to the other and go back and continue this strange trajectory (and like I said earlier... I have no idea why a bird would do this
Therefore it would have travelled a distance of 30minutes times 60km/hr (which is speed times time for distance travelled)
Which means that the bird would have travelled 30km.. when the 2 trains meat![/color:post_uid5]
Thank you very much and eh..

problem in what you said blanka09 !

i agree with whoever said the problem couldn't be solved !

here is why...

1 - its all about the trains, nothing been mentionned for the bird !
2 - yeah the trains crosses in 30 minutes. but there is no way a bird could fly at 60km/h himself for 30 minutes !

conclusion... since the BIRD SPEED was never mentionned. there was basically no way to find that variable and since we don'T know and will never know, then that equation will never be solved !

First of all I said open your mind..
Do not think about the capabilities of any bird or whether a bird can fly 290km/hr or not... just solve the equation..
And when 2000warrior and Sbyrd asked.. I said 60km/hr
There you go..
And yeah one more thing!!

really you sure you're good at MATHS ? cause i am not very good in myself and still even a baby would know that you cannot be OPEN MINDed in resolving those kind of equation !

its like if i asked you the answer to this...

there are 70 fruits in the bag...
20 apples and 5 oranges.
in the bag there is also STRAWBERRIES, RASPEBERRIES and TOMATOES. how many tomatoes is there in that bag ?

see, there is nothing we can do to solves such a problem cause there is variables we don't know that can actually be anything !

the only thing we can do is say what the numbers could be, without actually prooving it !

example:
20+5+X+Y+Z=70
there is no way to find X, Y or Z without only guessing !
the answer in this case, would be something like this...
X could be ... 1
Y could be ... 1
Z could be ... 43

see, too many solution possible, but there will never any way to actually proove what's int he bag without having all the facts in themselves !

same goes for your equation with the bird.

he could be so fast that he could travel 5 times the distance before the two trains meets.
he could be so slow that never will he get on the other train before they actually cross each other.
see what i mean now ?

we can be open minded like you say, but logically its another impossibility !

I'm so foolish I use to solve those train problems so easily....I'm a shamed of myself.....it's an Algebra problem too.......

ugh......

NOOO!!!!

And you got that one more thing....qoute from Jackie Chan Adventures.....jerk....J/K

See Karma.. when I meant be open minded,
I didn't mean form up numbers from your head that weren't there
All you needed to solve that equation were given in the initial question.. EXCEPT THE SPEED OF THE BIRD
Which 2000Warrior and Sbyrd asked and I gave it to them *yeah the smart ones  *
I said be open minded and not think about the possibilities of a bird flying 60km/hr..
It might be possible or not.. Who cares??
The nos are there for you to solve the question and not to ponder about..
It was a really easy question and all you needed was to calculate the time it would take for the 2 trains to collide.. simple!
The trajectory of the bird wasn't needed
It was just to confuse many... (and I must say.. it worked! )
So you see it wasn't that hard..
Be expecting more in the future

No really.. call me a jerk.. cause I did
And it's not one more thing...
It's oone mooooooore thing

.. ah .. uncle
