good idea *poor ######s*

*bump*
Something I find even more annoying then these ####-killers are the high ranked guys who are constantly striving to catch up to them, and because of it, only (ever) fight people ranked higher then themselves. Surely you've seen them in the chat, not accepting ANY fights until someone higher ranked then themselves and then it's "join my game #####". And your idea just gives them all the more reason to do... that sort of thing (although they'd be open to matches with people that are slightly under themselves with this kinda thing). So, do you think there's a way to keep them from fighting high-ranked player ridgedly, AND, at the same time, keep the noob-killers to a minimum? |
Yes...I know the type you speak of. Unfortunately, my idea wouldn't stop that from happening, but at the same time, I don't see how it would encourage more of it. People that do that kind of thing are lazy in the first place, and if they stand to gain an extra 50 points on top of the 500 or so they are already going to get, I don't see it making a huge difference.
But then on the other hand, these same people that pay such close attention to the ranks might be more likely to fight someone in the top 50 with my system, as opposed to how it stands now (because they'd be getting anywhere from an extra 20-50 points). Of course, we could always rig it to where the bonuses are only given if the person you beat is ranked under you, but I thought it would be easier for TMyApp to code this way (because if we did that, both your rank and your opponent's rank would have to be checked at the end of every match). Personally, I don't think beating someone ranked under you should give you too many points. I still think that you should be rewarded for beating someone ranked higher than you. That's why I didn't suggest making the bonuses outrageously high. But what got me started on all this in the first place, is the fact that you can beat someone in the top 50 (who is more competitve than most, and is more challenging to beat) when you're ranked higher than them, and get a substantial reward for it. But then if you fight them later on, when you're ranked lower than them, you get only 10 points. Were they any less difficult to beat? No. Should you get the same amount of points that you did when you beat them when they were ranked lower than you? The answer to that question is no, as well. But you should get something, I think. Top 100 people shouldn't be worth the same amount as the person that is ranked 9999, and that is why I came up with the idea of the "bonuses" in the first place. My idea wouldn't drastically change the current rank system, nor would it completely eliminate all the problems. But it would offer incentive for both n 0 0 b-killers, and low ranked players alike to actually fight people in the top 50, who aren't necessarily ranked better than them (because they'd have more to gain, with the bonuses, than lose). Another way of looking at this, is that the most active (top 100) are more likely to fight each other, rather than nobodies, thus encouraging healthy competition. |
lefty, why dont you do everyone a favor and lock this topic. tmyapp already said he's not going to do sh*t about the ranking system until he's finish with the game, which make sense. why should he be worried about someone feelings hurt because they are ranked 5998 and they feel that they should be ranked 3rd.
