Sonic 3 you fight robotnic. And in Sonic 3 it was Sonic, Tails, AND knuckles. Tails could fly in Sonic 3, and carry Sonic while doing so. It also introduced his ability to swim. But anywho, yes, you fight robotnic...

No, he's not talking about Sonic Adventure. In Sonic 2, Tails/Sonic flies the airplane, and Tails/Sonic protect it. Depending on who you chose to play as, or if you wanted both with you, you get to beat the game as sonic or tails by climbing a big airship thing, all the way to the ships tail. Then you see Dr. Robotnic's spacecraft flying next to you, and then whoever you had flying the plane will come in the same plane with rockets and then help you follow the spacecraft, until you jump off and hold onto robotnic's ship. Then when you enter, you have to fight metal sonic, and then, if you beat him, you proceed to fight dr. Robotnic in his "Super Robotnic Sonic smasher crusher tenderizer" robot. (It's the unofficial name I gave it, because Dr. Robotnic names all his inventions the same crappy thing...) Then if you beat him, he leaves, you leave too, and the spacecraft explodes. Then while your falling to the earth, the person with the plane comes and catches you in the front. Then the person who beat the game will strike a pose, and then it's game over. As for sonic three, I think Robotnic discarded the idea of the robotic Sonic.
