Close there was a gay guy in the movie which was one of the main characters....

well i know it was about 4 guys...one or two of them was gay maybe it was martin...they were all black. They saw some dead guy on the ground and they were run out of town and had to work for some white ppl and one of the guys tried to run away and got shot. And another black guy had an affair with a white lady and all the other black men stood up for him. all i remember.

They end up in jail because by them seeing the dead man and that white woman scehdule......they have to stay there for awhile.

The gay guy was going to go free. (Well the chain gang turned him gay.) He realized he didn't want to return home to his family as a queer he found it to be a disgrace......so he knew if he ran for the gate he would be shot...

So since he didn't want to commete suicide and known of his friends would kill him...he ran for the gate......a sad moment....=/
